I created a custom Google search engine for my website that searches ONLY websites with iris-related information. You are welcome to use it to search for irises without having to muddle through thousands of irrelevant websites. Unfortunately because of Google's own programming, it doesn't search qui...

$10 is a LOT to pay for a NOID, IMHO, but if you're really in love with it, then it may be worth it to you. Mike grows some of those smokey grey irises. Perhaps he can post pics of named varieties that you might like just as well and can then find from reputable iris growers who guarantee their stoc...

There is no iris registered with the AIS by the name 'Jungle Fever', so that's apparently just one more NOID sold by the nursery. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, you can download most of the registration Check Lists for free from the site Mike linked above. You can also find pics of many iris...

Actually, if you click on the link that Mike provided, then look at the lower lefthand side of the screen, you will find links to free downloads of several of the 10 yr registration Check Lists. You don't have to pay to download them, and they provide the same information for those years that the se...

Personally, I love Alpine Lake with the color breaking, but I know that it makes Dorothy Willott (the hybridizer) cringe when she sees pics of her baby looking like that.

FINALLY bloom in the Northland!

I am well used to loooooong northern winters, but this interminably slow, cold, bloomless spring has REALLY been working my nerves! Until yesterday, that is. I FINALLY HAVE IRIS BLOOM!!!!! Four littleuns opened yesterday for me. Three are MDBs (miniature dwarf bearded), and the fourth is an SDB (sta...

Definitely a whole lot prettier than that first pathetic, deformed flower, but still too plain a Jane to be worth keeping for anything other than your own enjoyment.

Isn't that always the way? It seems that when I find an iris that just knocks my socks off, it invariably is a snail of a grower ... or it turns out not to be tough enough to handle my climate and disappears as soon as I fall in love with it. Why is that? ;-)

Mike, I have an interesting pic of a clump of Bit of Chocolate from years ago that caught some RoundUp while I was using a sponge brush to try to selectively kill weeds within clumps. I'll see if I can find it and attach it here. You can easily tell exactly which rhizomes in the clump got drips of R...

Mrs. Horace Darwin has PBF (purple-based foliage). Mrs. George Darwin does not. That's an easy way to tell those two similar cultivars apart.

I think you're right about the color associations with sporting, Mike. I've also been thinking about the experiences I've had with herbicide bleaching. Although I'm not absolutely certain about this, it seems to me that when a purple iris is bleached by herbicide, it turns white. Whereas when an ora...

Gracie is quite the glamour puss, Mike. A very lovely garden sentry. I don't envy you caring for that coat, however. I can feel the matting from here! Of my 15 feline family members, about half are long-haired, and NONE of them appreciate grooming. Fortunately, only two of them have coats that even ...
