How did you become "addicted" to hostas? I have long thought that hostas are the perfect plant. My eyes were always drawn to the symetrical green and white clumps in other people's yards, and discovered that they are quite easy to grow. As soon as our yard had enough shade, I bought a few different...

Love the combination also. I just got El Nino, and love how well it goes with Jack Frost! For me, hosta gardening satisfies an artistic urge to arrange colors and textures that are already present in Creation. And we plant in soil, not stone, so things can always be rearranged. I have a collector ge...

Nice markings on your Spilt Milk. I have one that went all-green, but I have it in the shade.

You'll enjoy this forum. :P

Thanks for all of the nice comments. I have been enjoying seeing everyone else's gardens for some time, but thought I would share some of mine since so far they have escaped the frost, deer, the slugs haven't come out yet, and it hasn't gotten too hot. Wishiwere, we just put down some shredded oak b...

George, the hosta in the lower right corner of picture 1 is Honeybells. It is of the plantaginea family, and has very large, frangrant flowers. Picture #1: Clockwise from Honeybells is On Stage, Fried Green Tomatoes, Birchwood Gold, Raspberry Sorbet, Dwarf Siberian Iris, Fire and Ice, (unknown- mark...

Overhead view from our deck

Here are a few pictures taken from our deck of some of our hostas. This is the 3rd and 4th year for some of the oldest, so things are really filling in! Lots of color, though. I sure hope we don't get the hail or tornadoes they are predicting for this evening. http://i200.photobucket.com/album...

I agree that Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners (south end of Milwaukee) is a great place to visit. They have lots of hostas in the perennial gardens. Here is a link to some information: http://www.boernerbotanicalgardens.org/support/v1.html Yes, the Mitchell Park Domes would be an interesti...

Bravo! :P

I will add to the motion that you write a book. Your presentation was so easy to understand, something that a lot of newbies as well as veteran hosta growers would benefit from. Thanks.
