Re: Tell or dont tell?

I don't say anything anymore either  Of all the places I've talked to someone about it there has only ever been one that was genuinely interested and thankful. It seems to fall on "deaf" ears most places. I suppose we should all start making the effort again even at the risk of it falling on d...

Re: Question about HVX test strips

are you thinking of my parehelion? This is the post, from 2005: https://www.perennialreference.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=35350 If you read it, Chris thought that my 7 yro S&S was the "carrier" even though parhelion showed the symptoms first (a whole year first). And I can assure you that for 7...

Re: Where is everybody at?

It's awfully quiet in here for spring. Nice to see so many folks still here! I've peeked in a few times this winter, just been so busy. I tried to get the garden cleaned up in January, but didn't finish. I've been out there the last several weekends trying to finish clean up. Needless to say... sinc...

I need to clear out more woods/brush etc and make more ...

We were flooded in MD when hurricane isabel went through in 93. My entire yarden was under 4'-5' of water (salt water from the bay) that had oil, gas debris etc etc from other flooded houses/yardens in it. After the water receded, some of them looked horrid and even went dormant (though I just knew ...

I've grown minis in strawberry pots for several years. The only problems I've ever encoutered are that: you have to water very thoroughly to be sure all the plants get water and not just the top... and you have to divide them at minimum every other year or they really diminish. Other than that have ...

We didn't get the late freeze in my VA garden... but the drought!  Last year for various reasons I was not able to be in the garden from mid July until this spring. I lost probably about the same as you to drought, they just weren't established enough to be able to withstand it. We litera...

Laura
DH says the box is about 20' high.

When we decided to build it we had looked up the dimensions on line, so I'm sure you could do the same and get lots of usefull info. :)

There are still bird nests in the yard... but I stopped feeding them years ago when our stray cat (she's been here 10 yrs now) showed up. She is an outdoor cat and kills everything, birds, bunnies, mice etc etc. I do feed the birds here in VA though and we have screech owls in the tree by the new ho...

Laura I'm not sure what the height on that box was... the owls were in an old flicker hole in an almost dead tree. We put this box up when we finally had to cut the tree down and they moved right in. I'll ask DH. All I know is there is no way I could reach it  Spider they are eastern screech. T...

Voles!!!   I battled them for years in MD. They will chew through plastic pots above or below ground. We even had owls nested and an outdoor cat! They just couldn't keep up with the vole population. I ended up planting any new hosta (I was not going to dig up a couple hundred host...
