My Wolverine has been a good grower and one of my favorites. It holds up very well in a reasonably sunny area.

Re: Daily Hosta #4 - 'Masquerade' - Post your pics
Masquerade has been a good mini. I started with one tiny single eye of this plant and have nursed it along to the large patch shown below. It does revert, however each spring I simply remove the green leaves to keep it going. It is growing in a fair amount of sun and does not burn out. http://i113.p...

Re: Great Expectations..........?
Go for it. I believe this is the most attractive hosta on the market. I am on my third plant and have come to the conclusion that I should just treat it as an annual.

Linda, I really like your ruffled volunteer - the ruffle seems unique - deep and folding upwards around the leaf. Nice!

I have never had any problem with Aristocrat. I also grow it in a fair amount of shade. This plant is about 8 years old:

Re: What are you working on in the garden these days?
I have been working on catching up with all the weeds that grew in June and July during the rainiest summer I can ever remember...an ever-continuing project. Today I cleaned and expanded the bed next to my potting shed. I put in about 8 hosta that were waiting for planting, plus moved a large War Pa...

Where did you get the nice tags to mark your crosses. The last time I was crossing, I was using a colored string system and it was a nightmare to tie ...never mind keep track of...

Very nice seedlings. Continental Divide is lovely. I am curious...why is the vault so high - what are you keeping out?

Re: Secret Trade Received!
I want to thank John – my secret trader. He sent a wonderful package chock-a-block full of hosta. It was so much fun unwrapping the individually wrapped plants to discover which plants were inside. John most generously sent 6 hostas from my wish list, including Sea Wiggles, Radiant Edger, August Moo...

You know you've got it bad when...
I was driving down the highway today and saw a truck filled with upright, bright orange hazzard cones. However, all I really saw was "hosta eyes". Then I thought...hmmm, if I could get my hands on about five of those cones, I could plant them in the ground, photograph them, and create an interesting...

Re: Fine Gardening Magazine
I get Fine Gardening and I have been drooling over that front cover shot for three weeks. I can see the pic clearly and while photoshop can do wonders - I really do think Montana Aureomarginata is growing in that location. I know these magazines will set the stage for the photo. A friend was feature...

Re: How About Dang Voles
Thanks for the advice notmartha and Chris. I just added my first large grass to the garden. While it is not large this year, I have the same problem with a siberian iris in my perennial garden. I recently dug it up, cut it in junks and gave away a lot of it - just because it was housing voles. I wil...

How About Dang Voles
Vole activity is picking up as the fall progresses. I have taken everyone's advice on how to fight voles and have tried poison in cans, poison in holes, mouse traps and I reluctantly spread a vole deterant late this summer. I have read that deterants will only move them elsewhere. I'm trying to head...
