Re: Some thoughts on sterile hostas
I understand what you're saying. I went through a long period of hybridizing my own hostas for my own pleasure, and kept track of every cross; I've been picky about what I keep, and I don't keep weedlings. As a result I have a few that I love, although I'll never register them. Funny thing, I always...

Re: Better late than never
Thank you Chris. I wish others would share pics of their gardens/yards too so I can see how others have planted hostas. And if ever possible (and it wasn't a hassle) I wish you'd share a pic of Hallson's, because I don't think I'll ever get the opportunity to visit up your way, NJ is far. Thanks for...

Better late than never
Was finally able to get to this stretch (and it's almost August, ugh) to mulch it, I added a daylily to the sunny spot and it likes it there. I like the daylily, but love my hostas. The bright yellow one is 'Great Lakes Gold' and farther down at the curve is a blooming 'Blue Angel' with a myriad of ...

Beautiful! Very impressive.
I haven't had any success with any of the "mice", they all disappear after a season or two.
Thanks for sharing with us,
Donna

Re: streaker question
Thanks a bunch Chris! I never would have thought to remove the dirt. And I'll have to hit the dollar store (better than ruining my chef knife :D ). I may even keep one of the green pieces, it is a really lovely lime green, I don't have any other hosta in the garden that color. Hope you are well, gre...

I guess I'll just dig it up and attack it with a sharp kitchen knife.

streaker question
Hello everyone, Unfortunately I haven't posted in a long time, life has just gotten in the way (some good/some bad), but I hope it's okay to jump back in with a question and start joining in again. I have a BIG 'Sea Prize' that has 3-4 green eyes and I'd like to know how you would attack splitting o...

Thanks Chris. I did see your answer, but I wasn't sure what systemic was . I'll take a look and see what combats weevils too.
Thanks again,
Donna

Re: Anyone know what does this?
So how do you treat that? A bug spray? A powder of some sort? just curious to know if all I have to do is go and buy a can of Raid or something and spray it on?
Thanks so much! I have something munching on the edges of the hostas (not deer, groundhogs or rabbits).

Re: Weedlings in the garden - are you saving some?
Hi, I usually give all my seedlings away to co-workers; they fight over them. This one however I overlooked last year and now that it's in it's second season I am loving it. The ruffles and dark veins are something I don't have in any one plant. It was OP, and all I can assume is it's Queen of the S...

Re: Iris Frazier
Just thought I'd follow up on this with the pic I said I'd post.
The sport has the bright yellow leaves on the right coming out of the variegated one. Hope you can make it out. Sun was really bright, tough seeing the pic when I took it.
Thanks,
Donna

Thank you Carol. I looked that yup in the hosta library and the last photo looks just like it. I'll have to split that off and see how it does.

Iris Frazier
A few years ago I bought 'Iris Frazier' at one of the local hosta societies' meetings. It is a nice plant; sits upright and has good color. I hadn't noticed that it's sported a huge golden leafed eye. It's about 25% taller than rest of the plant. I was too tired from weeding all day, but I'll get a ...

Do they come back?
Hi all. Haven't posted in awhile, but have always been lurking; personal stuff, but coming out on the other side so to speak. Anyway, lost a bunch of hostas this winter (mostly the dwarf varieties) and was out looking at a bed I hadn't checked on since the winter thaw, and there was a hosta there tha...
