Anthocyanin discussion. Would be interesting to separate some eyes in a red colored clump of hosta and see if differnces in pH or something other than lighting makes a difference in intensity.

I'm waiting till the weekend too, no hot waiting at the post office. And I have some digging to do so that I can mail out on Tuesday. Sorry to my secret tradee for making him/her wait...but I only have one named hosta that is large enough for dividing that isn't on your "have" list already. I had a ...

Ahhh. Thanks Kent and all, yes it does help. I was worried about the "watermelon" look to them, but if I should not worry, then I won't. The older leaves seem to be getting darker, but still retain the odd coloring. I have two flats of newer seedlings going too, from seeds I got from Chris. All are ...

What do my seedlings need?

Hi, I'm new to seedling hostas. These are all either 'One Man's Treasure x OP' or unknown parentage (forget what seeds I kept...maybe Sieboldiana Elegans x OP). I think it's fertilizer these need, but wonder what is best. I've fed a bit of "mighty plant" and that made no difference. Is a slow-releas...

Would love to see more of the golds as they develop. I like the one with a leaf furthest to the left in the bed, hope it keeps its folded/cupped shape.

I'm a slacker...working late a lot this week, and my recipient already has so many that I have that I've got to see what I can split so that he/she gets something new!

Mine will go out later this week, Saturday at the latest.

Ginger, if you want to do a trade, PM me and I'll see what I can do. I've got two Sagae clumps and will be digging my second, smaller one up probably this weekend or soon to move it and can split an eye or two off for you if you are interested. I'm not sure how many it has, probably at least a half ...

Dig up the clump, with a clean disinfected shovel (bleach solution will do), to prevent transfering any possible viruses. Then divide out the green eye from the rest using a sharp knife if it won't pull easily out. Sometimes you can just tug the eye out from the others, more often they are joined to...

Very nice job! Why don't you sprinkle some thyme seed in the cracks? It'll smell really nice when you walk on it and look pretty when you don't!

Oh, there is no doubt I will always have Sagae. If I only had ONE hosta that would be it even if it had to grow in a pot by itself on a balcony!
