Re: Happy Summer!!
Well Diana, reality is forums are dying a slow death. I rather suspect most discussions happen on anti-social media these days and that leaves me out of the loop, don't do FB, TT, IG and whatever, I get enough exposure to ads the way it sits. I check here once in a while for signs of life.... and as...

Re: Maple Leaf "reversion"
The all-gold out of 'Maple Leaf' is called 'Golden Maple' as you know. If it's close enough to what you see in the HL I'd have no hesitation to refer to it as 'Golden Maple'. I had an all-blue sport out of 'Touch of Class' -mine seems to have a penchant for throwing all-blue sports- and I refer to t...

Re: We're not far off now...
I think we are going to try more in pots now so they might stay dormant longer in spring.
Chris, I grow ALL my hostas in pots and they break earlier than ones planted in the ground. The main advantage you'd have is the ability to put the pots into a protected area when frost is in the forecast.

Re: We're not far off now...
I'm glad to see there are still some regulars around here, but it's quiet, too quiet. Everyone on Facebook these days? No longer far off, Lucy, smack dab in the middle of it now. Matter of fact I noticed the development of the first scapes a few days ago. P9740409-albopicta.JPG This is my 'Alb...

...until we see them all unfurled and in their full glory.. Resize of P9730756.JPG Above is clausa var. normalis and below is 'Chinese Sunrise'. Every year it's a race to see which one shows first with clausa usually being ever so slightly earlier. When I sent these to my sister-in-law she said "Yum...

Re: Some thoughts on sterile hostas
And I wonder about Dream Maker - when it sports to a solid blue hosta they don't look anything like Blue Angel. For that matter Guardian Angel also doesn't sport to Blue Angel when it goes solid - so there is some other sporting going on with those plants or there is variation of Blue Angel out the...

Resize of P1180974_octopusgarden.JPG Took a picture of 'Octopus' Garden' a few days ago and I'm starting to think that I may have its lineage incorrect. The more I look at it the more I think this is a 'Hacksaw' seedling, it reminds me in many ways of a 'Hacksaw' seedling I call 'Tousled Hair', pic...

Picture #1 surely looks like 'Fortunei Hyacinthina', the 2nd one puzzles me in as much as my KR is in full bloom and there's not a scape to be seen on yours.

Re: Can't quite figure this out..
Don't use any sprays to speak of, David, never mind DEET. It was something 'environmental' but what the exact cause might have been is just a guessing game at this juncture. I actually also had some strange 'blotches' appear on both of my 'June' plants that had me really concerned but like these the...

Re: Are these two hostas virused?
No doubt that new growth ultimately will tell the story, so keep them potted up and see what the new growth shows, if anything! I must admit I had an issue earlier this year that caused me panic, see this topic. New growth is what put a smile back on my face. Now that I take a closer look at your pi...

Re: Are these two hostas virused?
I'd take 'em both back for a refund if from a retail environment, they're virused, ain't no doubt about it! If they are from a club/society sale I'd contact the vendor and tell them to destroy the plants these divisions came from or at the very least keep them off the sales table. And don't be surpr...

Re: Daily Hosta #2 - 'Kinbotan' - Add your pics
Last year I picked up a venusta at a local nursery and out of the assortment they had I picked the one that had a sport. I separated the sport and figured that what I had was likely 'Kifukurin Ko Mame' but that went by the wayside when the variegation had disappeared by season's end. When they came ...

Can't quite figure this out..
..and what I mean by that is that I can't figure out what the underlying cause is that had me concerned about the health of the plants in question. Let me illustrate with a few pictures.
