I could never bear to volunteer at an animal shelter although I wish I could. I think I would cry my eyes out every day. I've been feeding a stray kitten since the last week in August. It is so friendly and affectionate. I have called about 15 no kill shelters, and at two of them the kitty has been ...

Phoebe is just adorable. It's amazing that she was so calm for the long car trip. She probably realized she was going to a great home :D .

Peggy, finally getting back to you! Yes, the Jacob Cline did get a minor case of powdery mildew. In its defense we did have a very hot and humid summer, but I think it was the driest summer on record.

WOW! Fantastic pics, Peg. Thanks!!!

I have had one juvenile in my yard now for two weeks and am really enjoying its antics. Yesterday an adult or near adult was here, but I didn't see it today. They are so fascinating!

Tigger, I forgot to say that last summer I had one bloom on Blue Wave probably because we had 5 or 6 nights below zero with daytime highs in the teens that previous winter. This year it has tons of blooms.

Sam, that is a beauty!

OED, I like the lacecaps much more than the mopheads.

Tigger, it won't have an effect on the bracts about to bloom. I believe it takes several months. Here's a site with great information on hydrangeas and changing the color of the blooms http://www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com

Jane, yep I did add aluminum sulfate to the soil for Nachtigall and Matilda Gutges. I also put grass clippings and coffee grounds around them to try to lower the pH. The pink one, Rotschwanz, is in a container. I thought it would be a deeper color than it is. With aluminum sulfate and a low pH I thi...

John, I have read that Monarda is native to as far south as northern Georgia. It grows well in moist soil in sun or part shade.

Monarda Jacob Cline

I got Monarda Jacob Cline to attract hummingbirds to my yard, and I just love it. Here's a close up of a bloom. Hopefully it will be mildew resistant.
