Re: Congratulations, Chris and Brian!

I am so happy for you both!
You ordered your relationship uniquely as my sister did...lived together 17 yrs, had 3 kids, went on their honeymoon then got married!

Re: Wanda is back...

Oh, Pia, so glad to hear from you! Elder care is a bit of a challenge (hehe). But, the trauma is starting to fade and I am glad we did it for our elders...but real glad we are out of "old people" because I doubt we would ever attempt it again! Have never done anything harder in my life. I definitely...

Re: Wanda is back...

Hi Bonnie! WOW - 12.5 years as a caregiver - I am seriously impressed!!! We barely survived 6 years (hehe)...and that was only because hubby is 6'6", I am 5'10" and MIL was barely 5'. MIL had serious rage issues, along with the Alzheimers, which was a real challenge. Had to move every knife, screwdr...

Re: Wanda is back...

LucyGoose - great to hear from you! We have a herd of semi-feral cats here that keep the vole, mole, mouse and rabbit population down. I am not a cat person, but at least they pull their weight. And they are partly Manx, so interesting with varying tail lengths, from none to full and those jack-rabb...

Re: Wanda is back...

Chris: Glad to know you are still there! Was hoping you hadn't sold out and retired! I don't participate on Facebook or anything like that. Too Orwellion for me - or actually worse - since folks are eagerly willing and pay for the priviledge. Scary stuff! I really enjoy having livestock and enjoy th...

Hi Hallson Family! My elder care years ended about 2.5 years ago, and it has taken me this long to recuperate and recover! It was a long, very hard 6 years - but very rewarding (once the trauma of the experience wore off - hehe). If you know anyone caring for an elder - help them any way you can, pl...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Well, with great sorrow I am going to miss the event for the first time (sob)! I publicly and with great relish fired MIL's assigned dr. - it was sort of exciting. I think everyone thought I was going to physically stomp her (hehe). The nurses found MIL a great new dr. up here - a gerontologist - wh...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Pat: So glad you can make it!!! Not sure if I will make it...when Jeff got home yesterday we went back to the hospital. The RN in charge of MIL was just livid. The Dr. (so to speak) assigned to MIL had admitted her under the 23-hr. observation only. This is real bad, as MIL would have to stay in the...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

well, I think I will still be coming...MIL fell twice this morn and ended up cracking ! 5 ! ribs!!! She is in the hospital for a couple days, then she will be in a skilled nursing facility for a couple weeks. Thought for sure she cracked open her head on the second fall, but thankfully not. Will kee...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Linda ( whispering...congratulations )! Barring any last minute meltdowns, my sister Diana and I will be there! My husband is shaking in his shoes at the thought of being left alone ALL DAY and part of the night with MIL (hehehehehehe). Even though she is so nice now (and boy, does that creep us out...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Jane: Diana and I could pick you up on the way through...we have to go right past there anyways. Let me know...no problem at all (it'll only cost you one hosta - hehe!). Hope you can make it this year...seeing you in the parking lot in MP afterwards for a couple minutes just didn't do the trick (heh...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

I am going to do my best to make it...but with MIL, I have to live "in the moment" with her and plans often change minute to minute, according to her psychological/physical status and mood. I really, really, REALLY need a day away. My husband is getting twitchy at the thought of staying alone with h...

Re: Hallson Get Together!

OK, Kathleen...I voted for the 25th, since I can't imagine the get together without you! I am really, really hoping I can make it this year. I haven't missed one yet, but MIL is taking pretty much all my time now. We finally got her condo in Plymouth up for sale last month (anybody want to buy a rea...

Re: Kind of nervous. I broke my golden rule.

It is just plain UNNATURAL to not have regular freezes/frosts up here this time of year! Generally, I am out there at least every other evening frantically covering hosta until the second week of June...but not this year (so far). Just weird! Not that I am complaining, tho'! I had resigned myself to...

Re: Where is everybody at?

Here's Wanda...briefly dropping in. Taking care of MIL with Alzheimers is taking pretty much all my time now. She is getting to be almost more than I can handle, so trying to make time to get her condo downstate cleaned up to be sold. Once it is sold, she will be going into a nursing home...this is ...

Of course, after seeing the cat mansion, figure yours will be much prettier (hehe)! Brian said yours is also 8'x12'. Ours is up and sheathed, but no shingles, doors or windows y...

What a great day we had! So nice to see everyone and talk hosta. Was nice to meet Lori & Denise and their DHs. And Helen...where the heck were you & Gary?! This year I tried a different auction strategy - I REALLY wanted Monty Python, and it was last to be auctioned, so I didn't even bid on anything...
