Re: What are your favorite gardening tools?

Great article, Chris!!! I have always been a HUGE fan of the spading fork - it's my #1. I also use kitchen scissors and bypass pruners all of the time. :) For raking, I love the metal ones w/ adjustable tines. I got one on clearance from Smith & Hawkins. My mom LOVED it and borrowed it....never to b...

Re: Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

Why did they fail? Any idea? I thought they would be pretty tough, as maples usually are.

Re: Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

I begged and pleaded for Gee Farms in Michigan to ship me one. It arrived bent like the letter "u" (insert  lol)....but I gently bent it back up and staked it. I think I paid $60, including shipping. They informed me that Newton's Sentry is similar, but not the same. There is one other place th...

mrg...I purchased 'Monumentale' and planted it in the Fall. I'll keep you posted (if this crazy faux Spring weather doesn't kill it!)!

I'm with you, John....love it and have no issues w/ growing hosta in it. I have some monsters that don't bat an eye at it.

I'm curious to find out the results of this, as well! This is the (actual) plant that started the thread where I asked if it was infected. I saw it on Ebay and was scared of it!

Keep us posted! :D

Although they all seem to also have general heat damage, I definitely think they all have nematodes. :(

I got a slew of TCs this year - first time. I have to say, at the end of the day, I would choose only a few carefully to grow on to maturity. Some of them just aren't worth it - ie, My Child Insook, Jerry Landwehr, Ooh La La...I could go on. Some are awesome - Chodai Ginba, Small Sum, Fallen Angel.....

If we could have every hosta we want today, how much fun would it be tomorrow? I absolutely agree, Bill! I have a couple of VERY special plants that have been gifted to me and I would never, ever violate the wishes of the givers and profit from the plant. I hope that others will adhere to that same...

I'm not asking to give a critical analysis of your chosen plants, Wild Boar. :P

I just think it's fun to hear what other people got and I like to look up the pics to see what the hostas look like! :D
