Earth Angel

I received a dormant 'Earth Angel' this spring. I know there was only one in the bag, but now I'm noticing it looks like there's two hostas there. They are growing beautifully, but it's odd that it looks like I planted two separate hostas when I know there was only one...and they are identical, so I...

Doing the rain dance for you Chris. Gotta protect those hostas! We've been rain deprived, too, but finally got some today.

Re: rampant blight ?

This is damage from the four lined plant bug. They must be very busy beavers lately, because a lot of people are complaining of their damage...and some are seeing this bug for the first time ever this year.

Chris' article in Fine Gardening Mag...Aug 2008 issue

Great article Chris! It feels like I know a celebrity. :D
It was about the toad lily virus, and the information you gave is excellent. Way to go on getting the facts out there, the more we know...the better we'll do. Thanks.

Hi, Those spots are normal. And I also think that is just pollen from the trees ;) Thanks Chris...just what I wanted to hear. Running out right now to check on the white flecks................................. Okay, I'm back...after putting on another pot of coffee and watering my containers and ma...

I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I didn't notice it before you mentioned it, even in the picture. But maybe it's from the oak tree flowers...hopefully! Otherwise if it is aphids, I'll spray them off with the hose. Thanks for the help.

Still wondering about the spots.

I used Sluggo for the first time a week ago and have a question. Maybe I put too much down, but the pellets are still there. How long before you notice that the pellets are gone? Thanks for any help.

Yes, they can be divided, and should be every 3 or 4 years. Lift with a garden fork instead of a shovel...it protects the roots better. Pull apart by hand into a couple of divisions and replant. Throw away any woody clumps, usually from the center. If you google "dividing heuchera," you will find a ...

I'm no expert, and I'm glad you are getting good reports on your hosta. Just wondering, though, in the first pic, on the right, is that nematode damage? I'm trying to familiarize myself with what that looks like, and it does sort of look like pictures I've seen. Can someone tell if it is?

This question has come up before (either here or one of the other forums I frequent) and the feelings are mixed. IMHO, I say, sure, deer or any other animal that grazes on our plants, can spread the virus. Since HVX is spread through live sap, and the sap would be in the animal's mouth, it could spr...
