Yup, those gray worms are the cutworms. They are really bad in some areas here too. I had to pull Hosta 'Paradigm' early because they cut through so many eyes as they were emerging that the leaves now look like snowflake designs :roll: Chris would malhation work for this ? and be safe on the hosta ...

i went back last night with a flashlight and i found 5 black charcoal grey tin small worm? what are those it is not like the white worms found in grass , much much thinner and small ....

hostadesigner , i'll have to check here in Canada (Quebec) what is available for cutworm because their isnt much pesticide left that are good on the shelves .....i dont know if we have Triazicide here ??? i'll ask , thanks for the reply :) i am affraid not doing anything the problems will get worse,...

hosta designer , may i ask what is the treatment for them ? i think i may have them , i found 5 hostas that came out of the ground this year with holes chewed up in them or the top of the eye all chewed up , i tried looking aound the plant daytime , and evening time and early morning all week found ...

i had both for 4 years now , fire and ice almost disapears every season and is not growing bigger , and so is dancing in the rain....

Hi Carol, This is perfectly normal, and nothing to be alarmed about. It isn't really a nutrient problem but really the opposite. i had 3 hostas do this to me this spring all diffrent variaties too and i think it is a nutriment problem because after i gave then tomato fertiliser and alfalfa pellets they greened up fine.....some blue or green hostas often do this too.... we had lots of rain here and a very cold spring so it aff...
