Re: In praise of a grand lady - GrannyNanny has passed on...

Jim, thanks for letting us know. I haven't been here awhile as my hosta days have been few and far between. So sorry to hear about Phyllis - she was a wonderful lady and a friend to so many here. Bless you, Phyllis! Prayers for her loved ones at this difficult time.

Hello, Everyone! Happy New Year!

Wishing everyone a blessed and prosperous New Year! I'm so happy to see so many still here! It's been a long time for me...so much going on the last few years. I lost most of my gardens two years ago after the drought. Thought all my babies were tucked in safe and sound for the winter, but something...

Well, I did a test separately and they both seem to be good! Yay!

Thanks for sharing that article, Bob, that is a significant chance for white babies with blue eyes to be deaf - WOW!

I walked out the door to see this this morning...happened to have my camera close....so precious...

Re: Walmart find

Thanks, everyone! Yes, they sure are cute! OMG, Chris! Well, I'm glad someone that knows kittens noticed the problem! Close call sounds like! Someone else suggested they could be deaf, but at this point, anyway, their hearing seems fine. Is it something I need to watch for in the future? They have t...

Walmart find

I came out of Walmart Saturday around noon to see a little boy with a cage and 2 little kitties. I went right past them and to my car to unload my groceries...as I was loading my groceries, I could hear the kitties crying and a woman trying to tell this little boy that the kitties were hot and neede...

Re: IntheCountryGarden Anyone???

I agree with Pia and Chris. I ALWAYS get nice plants from In the Country. They are a reputable supplier. I got Paisley Print from them, too, and it is doing nicely. As said, one of the newer varieties. The price you pay for the latest and greatest is that they may be a little smaller to start. Chris...

Re: HVX Strips

HI, boops - The tests come with instructions, but simply put, you crush a small piece of leaf material in their envelope of solution and insert a test strip. It registers in just few minutes. If the hosta is not showing any symptoms, and the virus is not very far advanced, you could get a false nega...

Re: Japanese Maples - first pics of 2012

Lovely pics! I really want to do japanese maples. I looked around a little last year, but the ones I found at the nurseries were really pricey. If I felt confident that I knew how to care for them I wouldn't mind, but I would hate to kill one I spent the big money for. I wish I had gone to my Home D...

Re: Azalea in full bloom

Oh, so pretty! I can't grow azaleas here, I'm told, because of our soil. I suppose I could amend, amend, amend, but with all the walnut trees it may still be a problem. I'll just have to settle for admiring yours! Thanks for posting!

Re: Hepaticas in the hosta beds

So is now the time of year to go hunting for Hepaticas in the woods? Would I find them in the shade? In the meadows? I will definitely be eager to hear what you may suggest, as I am pretty sure my friend, Linda, here, is not really giving me good direction!    Linda, I was going...

Re: How to cull ?

I'm not sure this will work, as it is just a theory at this point, but I'm going to start growing all my seedlings in pots. The really special ones will go ahead and go in the ground, the others will remain in pots for evaluation. Then if I decide they aren't ones I want to keep, I can either give t...

Re: Deer resistant hostas?

Hi, Kevin -

Sorry, but I don't think there are any deer resistant hostas....not sure about shade plants. I've heard folks say that even the ones that are reported to be deer resistant, aren't.

Good luck...
