I wish I could have some of your rain. We've been in a drought and a heat wave. The temps have been in the 100's for several weeks now and the local water supplies are drying up. We've been on a water restriction and I haven't been able to water anything for about a week. I'll be surprised if my hos...

My biggest disappointment has to be Love Pat. Its growing very well, but it just doesn't speak to me. I just dug it up yesterday and put it in a pot to give to my sister. It had some monster roots wrapped around rocks and deep into the clay.

Everything else I've bought has exceeded my expectations.

There is no crown rot. After all the puddles dried up I went outside and carefully inspected all my hostas. The discoloration you see at the base of the Valentine Lace is just dried clay. I need to clean them up with a damp washcloth.
I think my hostas are just sunburned and they'll be fine.

Here is a better pic of the Valentine Lace. It does have a lot of water spots. I was using a miracle grow garden feeder to water it. The white spots are almost transparent, and I wonder if something is eating it. I'm not a big fan of the Love pat and I was planning to give it to my sister who is a f...

Hank, Thanks so much for responding so fast. I'm really worried about these hostas. I did briefly consider both nematodes and HVX, but I havent had them for very long. The first pic is Love pat. I bought that at the begining of April, a few weeks later I got the Valentine Lace (third pic) and the go...

What is wrong with my hostas?

When these first showed up I thought that they had gotten sunburned, but now I'm not so sure. Then I started thinking that it was some kind of fungus. We've been getting a lot of rain lately. My hostas have nearly doubled in size because of all this rain, but they spent a lot of time sitting in pudd...

Have you considered a pergola? You could get some shades or outdoor curtains to hang from the sides, or you could have some vines climbing a side or two and covering the top.

I copied this from Chris's journal. Your Gold Standard may acclimate to it's location. Wild Dog is right on the money about the difference between planting in 6hrs of sun in March vrs 6 hrs of sun in July. The hostas I planted not to long ago were doing terrible compared to the ones I planted in May...

It's a little late for me to contribute very much to this thread, but I thought I would post just the same. I live in KY with clay and to make my soil problems worse previous occupants had a concrete patio where my hosta beds are. So I have to fight with layers of rocky clay. I dug very deep and wid...

Good News!!!

Well my dig permit is in the final stages and I expect to get the ok by COB! I can't believe how long it has taken, I had to contact at least 6 different offices, but it's a good thing I guess. At least now I know where all the power, cable and water lines are. My yard is a maze of spray paint lines...

Thanks so much! I am so relieved! When I bought these hostas there was a 'baby' growing in the container. It was just one tiny little leaf that I put into a pot just to see if it would grow. It seems to be growing just fine and I was planning to give it to my Grammy on Sunday, but I didn't want to g...
