Re: Hosta ID

I think I bought it about 15 - 20 years ago. Could have been one of my first hostas. The clump is 2' wide X 1' tall. The leaf is four inches. I took the pic last evening. During the daylight, it's much greener in color. I looked at my notes from way back when - I have a golden tiara that is unaccoun...

Hosta ID

It’s been years since I’ve visited this forum. Glad to be back. Hoping someone can help me ID one of my hostas. I no longer have a record of it. Thanks for your help!

Re: hungry deer

We don't have alpacas at our zoo, but one of our employees does. So, I have access to that source, too. I have enough hostas and locations to try mountain lion, bobcat and alpaca. I'll keep you posted. Maybe post some pics of my deer-damaged plants. As I sit here writing this, I'm watching three dee...

hungry deer

Has anyone had success with Repellex for keeping the deer from munching on our hostas? My beautiful sagae is half chewed, as are quite a few others. This is the first year that the deer have gotten so close to the house, and I'm not happy about it! Any other suggestions for keeping the brazen deer a...

Re: Risky Business

Thanks for the advice. I dug it up, checked it out, and replanted it with lots of compost. The roots looked great and the one eye looks fabulous - I'll just wait and see.

Risky Business

I planted Risky Business last year with three healthy eyes. So far, only one eye has emerged this spring. It's not living up to its description of being vigorous, robust, prolific, etc. Should I move it or just wait and see if the missing eyes eventually show up???

fertilize?

What suggestions do you have for fertilizing your hostas? My hostas look great, but maybe they could look even better! Except for that hadspen heron.... I'm not new to the forum, just a silent participant! I read it every night and recently received my first-ever order from Hallson Gardens. My old a...

It's not my turn to have the virus!

Thank you for the good news. I'll take leaf dessication over the virus. Next spring, I'll try to give that hosta extra protection if it's prone to this problem. We did have a few cold snaps this year while plants were emerging - affected the buds on one of the hydrangeas, too. No other hostas were a...

My turn to have the virus?

Last year, Time Tunnel never seemed to be as "perky" as my other hostas. Had some leaf damage, and I assumed I had stepped on it when it was emerging in the spring, and never thought anything of it. Decided to move it to a new location. This year, the plant has definite leaf damage, and the family p...
