Re: The Hallson Hosta Happening...

Wish I didn't live so far away. Maybe some day I can make it. Sounds like too much fun!

Re: Dark Green Halcyon

Chris - I need help with this photo. I pasted it from Photobucket and about 1/3 of the photo has been cut off. What have I done wrong?

Dark Green Halcyon

I have never noticed any of my Halcyon as dark as this. This one is at my mother's house and greets everyone at the front door.

Re: Hosta Streaked Patriot

Cool photo and hosta - I have one that is starting to do some strange things, in a good way. Thanks for the picture.

Re: Fragrant Fire

I got Fragrant Fire at the Alabama Hosta Society sale last year. There were only two left when I purchased mine. Had several complements on it before I even made it to the car. To me it is a very tropical looking hosta and the red at the base of the petioles is a bonus. It is one of my special hosta...

Hallson Toy Soldier

Purchased this Toy Soldier from Hallson about a month ago. The white line that divides the margin color from the middle of the leaf is becoming more distinct (second photo). Pretty cool hosta. I can't get close-ups very well with this camera. See all the leaves and pine straw around the hosta? I did...

Fragrant Bouquet Sport

This H. Fragrant Bouquet is in it's second summer in my hosta garden and it put on a second round of leaves about the time the scapes started forming. This second flush has sport and the scapes had leaves on them pretty high up (second photo). I need to weed a little. http://i186.photobucket.com/alb...

This is a good thread for me because I have planted Impatiens around my hostas in years past and have thought that I have been getting Impatien volunteers around some of my hostas when they could be hosta seedlings.

Big Francee

This Francee measures 41" across and has grown like crazy this year. I never expected it to get this big. I have had it for years and have moved it a couple of times. I think it likes where it is - won't move it again.

Gold Standard with mottling

This photo was shown on another forum and I was wanting some opinioins on if this is HVX. This is not one of my hostas, but I have one or two that look like this (the subtle green mottling). It is my feeling that this is normal as this hosta bleaches out during the summer. Would welcome any comments...

Dang! I'm thinking that Minuteman should have the cream tones. I give up :) . I am going to call it Minuteman just so I can feel like I have a new hosta and maybe call it Patriot next year.

That would be my guess. I got a free hosta from a lady that I identified as Royal Standard and it looks like yours. The MyHosta database says it has a "lustrous shamrock-green foliage with upright habit" and I find the green color to be unique. Maybe someone else can comment on this.

Steg - according to the myhosta database, Patriot has a "pure white margin" and Minuteman has a "more creamy-white cupped margin." which this photo shows. Problem is two additional descriptions of Minuteman say it should have a white margin. Who writes those descriptions? But the bloom to me is the ...

Patriot or Minuteman

I posted this also on Gardenweb, so some of you may see this question there. I have always thought of this hosta (photo below) as Patriot. My wife purchased two of these maybe 7 or 8 years ago and I really did not care about hostas then, so the name was not important. Now that I am collecting hosta,...

I have a GIANT Francee that currently measures 41" across (just ran outside and measured it - a little out of breath) and I have another that measures 24" across. Not sure why the 41 incher is so big, but I am not touching it! The only thing I can point to is location. It gets morning sun, then shad...
