Re: What turned out to be your best newer hostas this year?

Ebb Tide wins hands down. Great foliage and blooms. And even with all the rain, not much slug damage. Others that I am impressed with this year are Paradise Power, Frosted Dimples, Ooh La La, and Earth Angel. And I have to make special mention of Island Fantasy. It was looking gorgeous this spring. ...

Thanks, Mark. Not spectacular but certain not sucky. They look fine. What I don't like are long stocks with half a dozen blooms on top. So this works for me. Faint praise, I know, but I'm fussy.

Keep up the good work, Mark! Some day I'll make it out to your place.

Midnight Rose is new this year. I've kept it in its pot and it gets afternoon sun. As it is so dark, I figured it would look nicest in a pot. I have planted dark geraniums in the garden and they really disappear against the ground.

Hi Mark,

I haven't been around much either. I'll be dividing lots of hostas soon if you're interested. Drop me a line.

Your seedling is looking good. What are the blooms like?

Thanks, Brenda. I haven't paid my annual visit to Whitehouse Perennials yet.

But I did do a bit of shopping in town. I picked up Peach Melba and Midnight Rose. I was thinking about Rave On and Firefly...But the one I really want is Peachy Keen.

Looking at it again, I can see myself itching to fill that space too. Carex Beatlemania might fit that spot nicely. Or how about Sedum Angelina. Or Geranium Purple Pillow. Or Heucherella Stoplight. Or Ajuga Burgundy Glow. Or Epimedium Shrimp Girl. Or Tiarella Neon Lights. I can also see one of the p...

I can't honestly see where you are going to put anything else. It looks great.

But then, I ran out of space years ago and am still cramming plants into whatever space I can find.

Hi Barbara,

I'm thinking that I have two pots of the same thing. I was going to try take pics to send you, because I'm pretty sure that I got it from you. I have labels in my pots but the ink faded. Sigh.

Last time I saw it, it was at least 10 feet wide. Was it last year or the year before...it's got to be 15 feet at least now.

I'm scheduling my plant shopping blitz for next weekend!

Spider,

My favourite minis are Cameo, Blue Mouse Ears, Lemon Frost, Chartreuse Wiggles, Hope and Cherish.

My son's favourite is Twist of Lime. He bought that one when he was 9, three years ago.

You've got some very pretty foliage there. Now all you need is to get good blooms. I've given up on buying foliage only heucheras as I don't have space anymore.

Good luck.

Heucheras

Thanks, all. I managed to pick up a Peach Flambe this year.

And I picked up Champagne Bubbles which I've been wanting for years.

I have been unusually restrained in my plant shopping this year. Still thinking about Hollywood and a few others. I love the long blooming ones.

Beautiful. I had to move mine to my father-in-law's garden because I didn't have a good spot for it. In three years, it's only put up one or two bloom stalks. Sigh. I'm sure my father-in-law is going to enjoy it.
