Bug ID? Heliopsis Lorraine

Does anyone recognize what is on this plant? Little tiny red colored bugs?

Wish I got a better picture, but didn't feel like getting good camera, camera phone was handy.....

Thanks,

Re: Catepillar ID?

Viktoria - That's pretty close. I don't know how much variation you can get in catepillars. Both are pretty close to the Banded Tussock Moth (maybe?) http://www.discoverlife.org/20/q?guide=Caterpillars I did a search there with "yellow/white" in main body color and Hair Density as "dense". As you se...

Thanks Chris. I had never seen a yellow one before. Closest thing I could find was a Banded Tussock Moth.

'Silver Bay'

'Silver Bay' would be my choice. Love the spring color on this one and it's holding up well again this year. Re: Question re: Burying Pots into Soil because of Tree Roo

I'd also recommend landscape fabric be placed in the hole prior to putting the pot in the whole. Anything to slow down the root invasion will help. If you create a spot that holds water it will attract the maple roots quickly. I do think the landscape fabric and pot will be enough when you add in tu...

Re: Central Ohio Hosta Society Leaf Show

David -

Yes, we have a show every year and it usually falls about the second weekend in June each time. I know we are always looking for judges, I'll find out who is in charge of judges this year and pass their information on to you.

Re: Central Ohio Hosta Society Leaf Show

Bump it up..........

The show is fast approaching. Even if you just go to see all the different leaves it's a great time. No need to enter, but if you'd like help in doing that this group is great at getting you hooked.

Remember - entrance to see the Leaf Show is FREE!

Re: Sports and Frequency

Thanks for the help. Here is what I get: Yes, once a plant sports, it's likely to retain the coding if you will for that sport and do it again. For Alex Summer: It could be Gold Regal, Summer Olympics or something new (although not likely different). The second sport coming off his time could also b...

Sports and Frequency

Just wondering if a hosta tosses out a sport if it is more prone to do so again later. Pictured below is Alex Summers. It tossed off an all gold sport. I believe this is called Summer Olympics, but I know there is some disagreement on that whole topic. To make a long story short, it looks like Alex ...

Good Use of Old Pot

Found an old pot that was way out of shape for anything.....except the garden.

Makes for a nice pot of:

Obsession, Valley's Vanlla Stick (both from Livinintheshade -- thanks again, all are looking great!) and a seedling

Re: Did everyone cover what they needed to for some frost?

Low 30's here the next couple nights. Lots of plant in pot are leafed out nicely. (didn't realize I had so many in pots when I put them away last year  ) Last week it was a freeze that damaged a number of plant tips. Oh well. Can't cover them all but will do my best again with those on the deck...
