Re: Happy Hosta New Year!
Happy New Year, Chris. I have 4 bad discs so I sympathize. So far gardening seems to help more than hurt providing I lift correctly. Take it slowly.

Hosta Just So
Hi, Looking through the pictures from the hosta index. I am reminded how much I LOVE the hosta Just So. Does anyone know of a source for this hosta. So far I can't find one.

Partners for Zounds
Hi All, Been awhile. Ready to add some new hostas. I think my Zounds looks lonely. It is spring in this photo so it's not gold yet. I'd like to add a medio variegated hosta on each side of Zounds. I need some suggestions for large, slug resistant, hostas that want morning sun. They should be vigorou...

Re: Better White variegated hostas
Thanks for all the replies and pics. Noreaster, is your pic one of Tom Schmind or Regal Splendor? I really like upright hostas. I liked the pics of Frosted Jade and Francee, that thin white edge is distinctive. Kinbuchi has a lovely flower. And set me straight, I thought Liberty started out creamy y...

Better White variegated hostas
Hi, I have old variegated hostas with white edges that I enjoy in the spring garden, but by midsummer the hostas' leaves are tattered. These older hostas have thin leaves that don't stand up to thunderstorms or slugs. What newer variegated hostas with thick leaves would you reccomend?

Just checked out Journey's End. Your photo showed some amazing ruffled edges. The hosta catalogs describe Journey's End as yellow leaves with a dark green margin. Does your Journey's End become more golden? I also love the color chartreuse and like subtle variegation.

Re: What new hosta for last year, is now a favorite?
Do the leaves of Velvet Moon have a heavy texture? Did the chartreuse color change to gold later on? This is fun, thanks for sharing. I had not heard of Velvet Moon.

What new hosta for last year, is now a favorite?
Hi All, I have been looking through my photos all winter. I'm sure you have too. What was your favorite of your new hostas? My new Cathedral Windows looked fabulous all season last year. No long wait on this one. Will my Liberty ever take my breath away? I planted Cathedral Windows in the fall of 20...

Re: For beginners, from experts
Hello, On watering: Before you try to fill up your yard with trees and shrubs consider your annual maintenance and their summer need for supplemental water. Probably the best advice I've read is to group plants by their watering needs. Also to plant the thirstiest plants close to your water source. ...

Hi All, In my garden right now Dreamweaver is the most spectacular so this one I won't want to be without. Linda, I'm hoping to have a specimen of Liberty as magnificent as yours. I'm posting what I purchased and planted as Liberty. I'm worried that it isn't Liberty. If anyone remembers their baby v...

Re: Blue Ivory vs First Frost
Hi SWMOgardens, That is one stunning photo. May I inquire which hosta this is? El Nino or First Frost? I hope it is El Nino, since I planted El Nino this fall. Thank you all for your posts. Most interesting. It has always seemed to me that a lot of ornamental cultivars get introduced too quickly. Th...

Hi, Thank you all for your replies. I'm in love with 'Touch of Class'. Wow. I've added 'Frosted Dimples', 'Fragrant Blue', and 'High Society' to my list. Is 'Fragrant Blue' related to 'Fragrant Bouquet'? Thanks, Felco2 Here is a pic of my shade garden to say thank you. The flower is spigelia marland...

Best Blue for Summer Long Color - 'Halcyon'
Hi, I only have one blue hosta Halycon. It's in a shade garden but still turns deep gray green. What blue hostas are famous for holding their color (given shady conditions) throughout the season? Here is a picture of Halycon on 6/6/09. eIMG_7246.jpg One in late August with deep green leaves next to ...

Hi,
It is such a thrill to see the perennials pushing through. I don't have any early hosta shots so I'm adding Orange Marmalade in all her glory.

Re: Blue Ivory vs First Frost
Hi Mooie,
So what does El Nino have that the other two lack?
Also why choose? Limits in available space. I love hostas, but I'm not a collector so I choose carefully.

Re: Blue Ivory vs First Frost
Hi, Thank you Chris and New Jersey for the pictures and advice. I love wide margins so I will be in the market for Blue Ivory. Sorry to hear about your cedar. I have lost a lovely and expensive Orangeola Japanese Maple and a Carol Macknie daphne that was gorgeous. Most of it was crushed. I bet it's ...
