Conventions
The Hosta Journal arrived yesterday. Yeah! Great issue with lots of discussion on container growing hostas. Will be good reading in the gray days to come. The wrapper included a registration form for the AHS Convention in Milwaukee, WI June 13 - 15. This has me wondering who plans to attend the 2013...

Re: Hosta Sale - 20 to 30% off selected plants!
Chris, Your place looks great. I must make a road trip sometime. I'd like to organize an overnight bus trip or caravan for our local club to SE MI and Hallson's and the MSU Hidden Lake Gardens would be must see destinations. I did place an order including Ripple Effect which seems like a wild and cr...

Re: Got this note a couple of days ago.
Below is the original obituary from last winter. I looked it up when Janet sent a notice that Homestead Division would do mail order only this year due to the death of her mother. My son and I made a trip to Ohio and spent a very informative morning with Peter, Jean and Janet in June 2009 touring th...

Re: Midwest Regional Tour Gardens - PHOTOS
Thanks for sharing your pics from the Kleinheinz garden. It was really outstanding. The non-hosta perennials and the trees were very special too. More tour garden pictures, please! BTW, can anyone tell me the name of the convention gift plant? By the time I got it home I had misplaced the slip of pa...

Re: Great Expectations..........?
I say go for it! I believe dhaven's advice is the best. Ample water and sunlight as well as shallow planting (and patience) will reward you. My GE took four years to get past one eye. Last year it had 10 eyes and leaves the size of dinner plates. It is the second hosta everyone asks about (after my ...

Re: hostas in container
I upright the pots early in April and gradually remove the mulch. This year it was very warm early and we had no late snows or hard freezes. The hostas in pots are up a couple weeks before those in the ground. Noreaster, I tilt the pots so the crowns face north. This keeps the sun off the crowns and...

Re: Let's show Paul some love!!!
Thanks Paul! I don't post much, but I read many posts. I've spent a lot of time in the last couple days viewing and re-viewing the wonderful pictures of convention gardens. I can't imagine the work you put into sharing the photographs. I am very sorry I did not make it to the convention. Thanks aga...

Re: hostas in container
Here in the flatlands, near Chicago in Zone 5, I’ve been growing some hostas in 7 to 15 gallon containers for several years. It solves the issues of planting under maples and it gives the garden varying heights and showcases some specimens. I am not sure if I’ve just been lucky or if my winter regim...

Re: To all those to whom I sent seeds
Finally got a few pics of DB seedlings with streaks. I had a few others that have gone all blue and one very bight yellow. All told I have about 20 seedlings; just three have heavy streaking. Thanks again Phyllis. I can't wait to see these grow up. Mark http://i950.photobucket.com/albums/ad349/markr...

Re: To all those to whom I sent seeds
Hi Phyllis, I planted the DB seedling seeds and the very large streaked seeds you sent on December 28th. The same day I also planted DB seeds I obtained from Rod Kuenster. At the same time I planted OP seeds I had collected at home. Only about 10% of the streaked seeds have shown signs of life and t...
