Re: How are your hostas looking ?
I was wondering about folliar nemtodes but looking at pictures, I think not. I think my hostas are suffering from an excess of alpha dog urine.

Re: Dwindling hosta - WHY?
Thank you for replies - good suggestions/ideas. I cannot discern a common characteristic at this time but will continue to see if I can figure out what the problem may be.

Re: How are your hostas looking ?
Mine largely look like sh*t. Frayed on edges, some with 90% or more of foliage gone. Anxious for another season.

Dwindling hosta - WHY?
I have a couple of hosta that have shown great vigor in the past, and then suddenly start to dwindle. This year, they are 'Alligator Shoes', 'Summer Breeze', 'Sgt. Pepper' and 'LS Looking Glass'. Only a couple of good stems remain and if I dig them, it is like each stem is its own plant - not a clump.

Re: Growing hostas under trees - which trees work?
Under maples and conifers, I have them in pots and sunken. Roots will invade holes in bottom of pot, so I rotate frequently during the growing season - leave a good lip above ground so it is easier to grasp. I feed often with Osmocote. And when hosta roots have filled pot, I upsize the pot.

Re: Have you named your garden?
I have different areas of my garden named - I have a display of chimney pots in one area, that is the "Chimney Pot" garden. So it goes...

OMG - I am SO on board with this. Try grading about 30 term papers (college student believe it or not). Sometimes I feel like I need valium.

Re: The drought of '09
I knew that Texas was suffering (my daughter lives there). Sorry that you're in the same way. Unfortunately, mother nature has seen fit to give us all of the rain. My hostas are thriving - everything else is suffering from having their feet too wet for too long.

Re: Sun-tolerant WHITE-EDGED hostas?
Thank you for your expertise. I think I'll put 'Patriot' to the test - it has never done great where its at - maybe it would like more sun. (The 'Antioch' relative is 'Ice Follies' - the brain just goes '"DUH" sometimes.)

Sun-tolerant WHITE-EDGED hostas?
OK - in reference to my prior email, I am still relocating hostas and also have a place that "needs" a ML white-edged hosta. I don't want the green to fade. I have the following that could be relocated: not "Antioch" but a recent intr'd sport Ebb Tide Blue Ivory (the "blue" tells me not) Lakeside Dr...

Sun Tolerant GREEN Hostas?
OK - I'm move 'em around mode - too big for here, it has to go there; looks OK here, will look better there. We're all gardeners so I KNOW that you all know where I am coming from. So - I have a spot that needs a good blast of dark green next to "Cadillac" and in front of "Sunshine Glory". Both are ...

'Dust Devil' - how much sun?
I planted my little, itty-bitty 'Dust Devil' in a protected place a couple of years ago. (Nearly lost it in the great move of 2005.) Well, it is getting bigger and if it goes to the size listed in the database on the Hostalibrary, it can't stay there. I have a great place for it where it's unique co...

Re: Hosta sports, registration, etc.
The pic of "Green Glitter" on the Hostalibrary site is dead-on! I thought I might dub it "Ten-Cents" - funny that someone else did the same. Is there a picture you can share so that I can decide if my green sport is a sibling?

Hosta sports, registration, etc.
My 'Paradigm' has sported (I think that is what is it termed) a beautiful green off-shoot. I've nursed it along and it has turned into a very nice, shiney, corrugated, malichite green hosta. I usually give away green shoots that come off of my hybrids - they're usually not very impressive. But this ...

Re: What's the latest on HVX?
Chris has determined, based on the poor-quality photos sent to him, that my 'Stained Glass' is infected. DRATS! So I'm sitting a potted plant on the spot for the time being. From what I can tell, I can "safely" plant another hosta in that spot in the spring. Yes???
