Re: Ogon Tachi...post your pics and info

Thanks Ann...I didn't expect it to get so big. It gets lots of sun, so it stays yellow all summer. I also placed it in a protected spot away from the westerly breeze in my yard because of the very tall scapes (taller than the picture shows as they kept growing). The sturdiness of the scapes and thei...

Beautiful , healthy and happy looking hosta, your SGS. I like your hosta companion plantings too. May I ask what the other hostas are?

Hi cowboy,

so that's what a Liberty 7 years in the making looks like...BEAUTIFUL.

Double clicking on each of the photos produced even bigger images of even the largest pictures. WOWIE!!!

Re: Hosta of the Day - Mayflower Moon

Steve, your Mayflower Moon looks great. I chose to add it to my garden in 2013 after looking for a lutescent hosta. It didn't do well in my garden but that may be because of the location (on an incline) in which I planted it.It may not have gotten enough water. I moved it and hope it survives to 2015.

ViolaAnn and Lessa, thanks for posting your pics. Both of your hostas are beautiful and show what a gorgeous hosta it is both while in the young and mature stages. I'm surprised to see that mine should still grow taller.

Re: Gypsy Rose damage

Hi Ed,

What a magnificent Gypsy Rose you had... so sorry it was attacked. If I were you I would lift GR to check what the underside of the bare patch in the middle is like. My personal preference would be not to have a lopsided clump. I'm interested to hear what others have to say on the subject.

Re: Sick of weeding already

Boops, Weeding is a never ending chore here. You could drive yourself nuts if you're a perfectionist. I have all sort of weeds in my beds that I've never had before in addition to the regulars . For some reason this year there were more maple tree seedling than usual.. lots of clover, dandelions etc...

Re: H. Emerald Ruff Cut

Rufie, I like to wait until the foliage of my hostas is dry before removing it, to avoid transferring latent HVX from one hosta to another. I'm glad I do, because my Ani Machi/Geicha was near ERC and found to be infected 2 years ago. I'll try to make sure I get around to the ammonia bath next spring...

H. Nancy increased in size

The hostas in this bed under three spruce trees aren't growing to their potential because of the tree root competition. Nancy, I noticed, did increase from last year (now in year five)...so I'm encouraged to keep adding hostas in this bed.

Thanks for looking.

H. Emerald Ruff Cut

Hi everyone, I've been enjoying everybody's pictures, so I thought I'd share a pic of Emerald Ruff Cut (June 3, 2014), which is looking a lot better than last year. It was damaged by frost last spring. I didn't remove the dead foliage last fall and wasn't able to remove it early spring, so perhaps t...

Re: Does my Guardian Angel have HVX?

Thanks so much, Chris. I really appreciate your reply. Some of my hostas did get frost damaged. I was worried that I had contaminated GA because I bought both AM and GA in the same year. I'll just get rid of AM for now then. Thanks again and good luck with your plantings.

Does my Guardian Angel have HVX?

I bought my GA in 2011 from what I considered a reputable nursery, not one of the big box stores. I saw HVX at this nursery in 2012. I just recently found out that an Ani Machi I bought in 2011 has HVX... not bought from this nursery. I've noticed this change in GA in some pictures posted on GardenW...

Re: Blue Ivory

I guess a quick way of adding substance to a hosta is to plant three in a cluster. A hosta retailer here in Ottawa did it with his Patriot. It looked really great in his garden. My Blue Ivory is still small but looking good.
