Re: WAKE UP! :)
I am 100% sure. That is the reddest, and the palest flower from the same plant. Each were a little different, and most were between these two. The lighter one was a little more red in the middle, and not as purple as it appears in the pic. You can see from the background, that the lighting is differ...

The Geneva Firetruck changes with every bloom. Both of these photos are of blooms from the same stalk.

Re: WAKE UP! :)
I am a hosta person, too. They grow fine down here, but our season is so long, they peak early and struggle the rest of the year. Most of my hosta are blooming, or are about to. As far as the daylily questions, I can't answer. I am a daylily noob. I joined this board for the hosta info, but w...

WAKE UP! :)
I am new to the daylily forum, and I'm fairly new to daylilies, as well. This place seems to be dead. Maybe because I am ahead of schedule in South AL? Most of mine are nearing the end of their first cycle of blooms. I don't have a bunch of fancy daylilies yet, but I thought I would share a few pics...

ID?
Hi all. I was given some daylilies at the end of last summer, and was told that they "should be red". Well, they are red alright. Can you tell me the name of these? Thanks for your help.

Re: What's on the menu?
Yes! Finally found one. Looks like a black vine weevil after all. The maps I've found don't show them this far south, but I have the evidence. Sorry for the blurry pic...
It was right here, headed up this stalk again...

Re: What's on the menu?
Thanks for the replies. No...I don't have deer or rabbits. I do live about 20 miles from the Boll Weevil capital of the world. Might they eat hostas? They can decimate whole fields of cotton. And yes...I'm game! I ain't above puttin on the camo and night vision goggles to catch these cri...

Re: What's on the menu?
Here's what I'm looking at. It is happening fast....before I can catch what's doing it.
They are in different areas of the yard, and they are the only ones in each area being eaten.- May 13, 2011 8:24 pm

They are eating them, and leaving half leaves. It is a clean cut.

What's on the menu?
Apparently, Gold Standard and Francee. :( Something is mowing through the leaves of several of my hostas from the outside edges in. I can't seem to catch the vandal. I have some carpenter ants in the area. Could they do this? Looks like something a grasshopper would do, but I haven't noticed any aro...

Re: Hosta munching?
Is there a chance it was eaten from underground rather than above ground? If so I'd blame voles. Laura I just had to look up what a vole is. Thankfully, we don't have them where I live. I could just see myself looking like Bill Murray in Caddy Shack, if I had to deal with those critters. :o

So MAD! Mostly at myself...
Not long ago, I picked up a large Revolution at a local nursery. It had a green sport in it, so I divided it before planting. I planted the green sport away from the rest of it. Today, I was back at the same nursery, and noticed that most of their hostas(hundreds of 'em :o ) looked diseased. They we...

jgh, I love that about golden tiara, too. I have some that get a couple hours of mid day south Alabama direct sun, and never show any sign of burn.

Re: Move it 6"? lol.
I would...LOL...The OCD in me would demand that I do so. I have no set backs when I move whole plants, soil and all. I actually moved a whole June a few weeks ago, after the leaves had opened up. It was too close to a larger hosta that was covering it almost completely. It is doing just fine, and I ...
