Re: Hosta delivery!
That's an azalea - actually, three of them. The biggest one is the pink/salmon and then just to the right of it is a white one that is done with wilted rain-soaked what used to be flowers. Another salmon/pink behind that....makes it all look like a single plant.

Hosta delivery!
I arrived home from a job this afternoon wondering if my package from Chris would be there...USPS said it should arrive soemtime today. It was on the porch...a bigger box than I was expecting but then, I didn't really know what to expect. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5279/7166241712_3870b32241_z.jp...

Re: Royal Standard with "scapes"
So NOBODY thought that was hostas with big white flowers;( Those iris never bloomed last year. There is a row of yews along the drive that was an serious need of a trim. The last one nearly covered the iris. We got rid of the last one and seriously trimmed the others so we didn't even know what colo...

Royal Standard with "scapes"
I noticed a message the other day about somebody who had some scapes already. I took a double-take last evening when I came home from my son's lacrosse game when I too saw flowers coming out of the middle of our big Royal Standard. Perhaps it's not a Royal Standard though...it was here when we moved...

Flicker digging in the yard
What's the guy doing? We have a bunch of flickers and this spring, they're digging in the front yard instead of the trees...not totally but quite often. Grubs or something I'm guessing and it's just the front yard too. I've seen them with their beaks deep in the ground...and inch or two I'm guessing...

Re: Dogwood not flowering or half flowering
Well, last year was DEFINITELY a wet year. Broke the rainfall record around September I believe but the rain didn't stop tell December or Early January. It will probably be back next year.

Dogwood not flowering or half flowering
We have a number of dogwood and their flowering this year was odd - a couple of the white ones didn't flower at all...I guess it's possible that I missed it but I really don't think so 'cuz others are flowering now. Then we have a single pink one and it's half flowered - nice, full flowers on half t...

Hose reel to water hosta plants
OK, this is a little off-topic but there seem to be a lot of people here who have some rather large gardens and somebody might have some ideas. I have a few hundred feet of garden hose to water our hosta (does that make it on-topic;) and other plants. One section in particular is 300' long. I curren...

Re: Funny customer call
I guess I need to order one or two just to be able to relate to the experience. I even went and looked through the catalog...but really, we got some plants from some friends, from my wifes, parents and a local nursery...I think we should let thing settle down and make sure we don't have any issues b...

Tempting...it's a little far. It's probably just over an hour each way. I'll mention it to my wife - if she really wants to go, we'll be there;)

Re: How early can HVX be detected?
Oh, got the DVD today. My wife and I watched it this evening. You got some ugly hosta there;) I think that will help identifying problem plants. My wifes parents have some hosta and we'd talked about getting a cutting from them so, yesterday, we were over at there place. I think I'm getting paranoid...

Re: How early can HVX be detected?
We stopped in at this greenhouse on Saturday for some Easter flowers. Talked to them about HVX - they said they haven't had much problems and, they DO ship them in, mostly from Walter's. After hearing that name, I've seen that name a few places...seems like a good place.

Thanks - that certainly wasn't the only leaf..there were quite a few like that. We're definitely planning to stay away from them.

Re: Seeds available
I'd kindof like to give that a shot. I'm not from Canada so I'd gladly pay the postage. That seems pretty cheap for a couple hosta plants;) The Blue Ivory catches my eye, we don't have anything close to that. I one person can get two packets, Touch of Class would be nice too;) I have no idea what to...

Re: Hosta damage while emerging
I have two that look like that too. A stained glass and a planteginea (maybe). This is new for me so I don't know if it might be normal for some varieties. All the rest of them have essentially the same form...straight spike that gets taller and finally unfurls.

Just got back from Lowes
My wife was at Lowes the other and and talked about these nice looking hosta they had. I went to check them out and really, look to see if I could spot any HVX. Some of them did look nice though, nice big, Francis William...but, we didn't buy any. Tell me how I'm doing? The pictures are a little bad...

Re: How early can HVX be detected?
We got these hosta from a local greenhouse. I don't think they are imported because he talked a little about planting, etc. but, I didn't ask. I guess you still have to plant imported ones. We got them last fall. We saw them while wandering around the greenhouse. He didn't have any out for sale when...
