Re: Help with identification?
Thanks for the insight. We haven't divided any of them --they are all small and different hostas which went into the ground all about the same time. Such a sad sight!

Re: Garden Interventions & Brainstorming
Unfortunately, I did not take a pic of the area when I was there last. I'll try doing a diagram and loading it later. Thanks!

Re: Help with identification?
The infected hosta is near three of the others that I posted pics of here. A couple of hte other have small holes which we presumed were from the Japanese Beetles. Should we pull them all?

Re: Help with identification?
Thanks everyone. Hosta Virus X? Hmmm. That's our first case then over here. Okay, I will get it out of there. Any special way needed to destroy it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would appreciate any help identifying these hostas that my mom has bought through the years but who hasn't kept clear the tags.

Re: Favorite low maintenance shade garden plants?
The garden area to be created faces West and is shaded by a large tree standing South of it and actually south of the front door. It might get a little late evening sun but not much during the day. So one long side bordered by the house, one side by the driveway, the other long side by a sidewalk, t...

Favorite low maintenance shade garden plants?
I posted this also in the Garden Gallery section but thought more might see it here: I'm helping to plan a shade rectangular area approx. 12'X 8' in between a garage door, sidewalk, and front stoop. Any ideas for a family that has very little time to do gardening but has a mom who needs a meditation...

Garden Interventions & Brainstorming
So the garden intervention at my sister's house is mostly complete. 5 garden areas in front: 3 completed, 1 in training, 1 to brainstorm. lol. Anyone have ideas for a large 12'x 7' rectangular shade section by her porch? To me it begs various vertical heights and a seating area or waterfall type of ...

Re: How much space ... should a hosta have?
Thanks to everyone who posted. I appreciate the pictures and the extra information on nurturing. There really is something calming to hosta shade gardens -- it's a whole different feel than the hot sun garden in the front.
Happy Gardening to all!

Re: An unusual view of my back garden
You must be pulling my leg -- it looks like a botanical state garden not a private citizen's back yard. Wow. Very impressive design, color appeal, everything. Thank you for sharing you a bit of your heaven!

Unbelievably beautiful! It's definitely an artist's eye that planned that color pallet. Well done and thanks for sharing!

How much space ... should a hosta have?
Okay, so my back shade garden is doing its own thing. Last year my step-daughter brought me a bunch of mystery plants and this year much to my surprise they all look like monsters! Should I be spacing things out sometime? Do you divide hostas? So little time, so much I should learn! :) Please let me...

rampant blight ?
Okay so the plants that have this THING get all crinkly and shriveled after it gets spots and have holes on it -- not same effect as Japanese Beetles; I've seen some elongated black beetles with yellow stripes on a few of the plants that are affected. Any ideas anyone?

yucca tree pic?
Karma -- can you get a picture of the old yucca? I'd like to see how they trim it. I like mine but it does need some pruning but I'm not sure how best to go about it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well, I hate to feel glad about having others to commiserate with on this particular topic but... thanks for sharing!!!
I guess I'll look for that spray and some traps.
Maybe someone should rewrite the woodchuck tongue twisters since the little buggers seem to like hostas so much!

hosta delicacy (for groundhog)
I skimmed the other categories but didn't see a more appropriate place for this. Does anyone have ideas on how to protect hostas from becoming ground hog munchies? As far as I can tell the hog doesn't have a particular preference, he grazes on one or two until it's down to the ground and then starts...
