Re: Scale? On white pine
One year I thought my pines had scale. That was 20 years ago. Planned to have them sprayed, but the tree man was half in the bag and never showed up to do the job. Scale never showed up again, either. Someone suggested that it could have been resin dots. Take a closer look with a magnifying glass to...

Low 30s with rain/sleet should do no harm.

Re: Any one have Hosta 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'
Moles are carnivorous and do not eat hostas. Their tunnels, however, facilitate the predations of voles.boops wrote:oh good, not worried now. Thought maybe it got eaten by a mole or something.

Re: Daylily bed re-do
"Sounds like quite the job to dig a 14 year old daylily clump!" Precisely why I gave them away! The deal was bring your own shovels (and backs), clean up and refill the holes from my aged mulch pile. All I had to do was point: that one goes, and that, and that...and presto! no more crowding and room...

Looks to me like 'Pinot Gris' from Thierry Delabroye. 'Circus' does not have those reddish/onrangey new leaves.

Re: Daylily bed re-do
I realize I may have a biased viewpoint but my idea of a daylily bed redo is to give them all away (two pickuploads last year) and plant hostas!

Are all the edged leaves on the same eye(s) or randomly placed?

24 F this morning, so more of last year's pics is the best I can do: 'Jolly Roger' is 4' high (foliage).

'Empress Wu' has larger leaves. I do not have a mature specimen yet (kept selling out), so cannot compare stature.

Here's a bunch of oldies-but-goodies. A path through them is completely overgrown so I really have to move some.

Re: Last year vs. this year
Still only one hosta eye showing, except for those that are frost-heaved , so here is another photo from last year. The name 'Inspire Greatness' does not inspire me, but this is one beautiful hosta!

Re: Last year vs. this year
When a couple of trees were removed, 'Eric's Gold' was left in too much sun. It is a wonderful spot of color in the early season, but suffers in hot weather. It is on my list of plants to move ASAP; that list does not seem to be getting any shorter.

Re: Last year vs. this year
Viktoria, Glen Fetish is a beautiful hosta!! I can't recall any vase-shaped hostas with yellow leaves. So thank you for the introduction!! Do the leaves keep at least a chartreuse tone when in full shade? We don't dare plant hostas in full sun down here.... Kevin in KC[/quote] GF is very sun-toleran...
