Akebia will cover the arbour very quickly ; remember two plants work better if you desire them to produce fruit .
IF you have a bit more time and patience try Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris .

Cornus alternifolia is indeed a lovely NA Native dogwood . The only negative side is that the deer will chew them apart given an ample opportunity . Back in the wood lot I have an 8' tall cornus alternifolia ; for plant structure alone it stands out in the crowd .

A few new additions to the garden in 2007 are as follows : Franklinia alatamaha , Cornus walteri , Magnolia kobus , Hyrangea quercifolia ' Little Honey ' , Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane' , Abelia mosanensis , Parrotia persica , and more Sassafras albidum .
