Re: Rose Cuttings..

Hardwood cuttings in the fall are simple. When I start rose cuttings in the early summer I put them in a "greenhouse". I take opaque, plastic milk bottles and cut the bottom out. Then I put it over the cutting, leaving the lid off. Ideally not in all day sun or they can cook. Keep moist but not wet....

Re: Wood ashes

Wood ash is usually very alkaline. Excellent in acid soil but neutral or above soil it probably shouldn't be used.

Re: Oops - Picked up Opossum last night

Chris, I've live trapped the same possum in the same trap multiple times. Even within 15 mins of the last time. It's almost impossible to discourage them once they find a food source. If you aren't willing to "dispatch" it the best thing to do is take it more then a couple of miles away. On the othe...

Re: Come On Spring!!

It's been a crazy spring. We went from the 60s one day and 12-14 inches of snow the next. Below normal temps for march but things are looking up now.

Signs of life

KHT, my Hellebore plants I got from you last year are looking great. I think all of them are starting to put up new shoots and I'm looking forward to seeing them develop.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Re: Twin updates

I can't imagine that distance. My 5 gkids all live within 15- 20 mins of me and I drive three of them to school a couple times a week with stops for a shake or cone. Just enough to fill them full of sugar and send them home before dinner time. :D :D A couple potential gardeners in the group that lik...

Re: Advice Required: Overwintering in a window well OK?

Could it possibly be to warm in there with the plastic covering? If it didn't let them go dormant then the cold nights could be hard on them.

Re: Anyone else thanking Hurricane Isaac?

We've had a couple of day with steady rain. Amazing how the neighbors were out looking like it was snow fall in the desert. I know that because we were out there looking too. I cut my grass Friday before it came. That was the first time since the middle of June that I've done that and the natu...

Re: Perennial Hibiscus

Mine seem to start a pod but they turn yellow and fall off. I've been watering most every day with the heat and no rain we've had this summer. Now were getting soaked from the hurricane left over coming up the Midwest.

Re: Perennial Hibiscus

My Kopper King was super early in breaking ground this year and has been blooming non stop. Question The seed heads start forming then seem to die and fall off before they mature. Is this the particular variety or just the lousy, hot year. I've watered almost every day till we got all this rain comi...

Re: Question for Bob

The "taunting" really stinks! Even if you have video of them doing it I doubt it's more then a "don't do that again" from the law.
Often times complaints against idiots only give them fuel to do more.
I would still keep records and video.

Re: Question for Bob

Fence fighting is a lousy situation when your the only one who cares. Are there any laws in your area concerning pit bulls? Personally I love the breed but it attracts idiots. You can only do what your doing. I have the same situation here. Two Bearded Collies and a Shelti behind me. I have no probl...
