Re: Recommendation for Large Variegated Hosta
Victory has turned into a very impressive, very large and upright hosta for me. Took a little time to get going, though, but I have it less than optimum lighting conditions, so that hasn't helped. Garden Party is nearby and equally impressive, just not quite as big. Also a little slow to get going. ...

Re: Is Great Expectations still the best of its type?
These are my Great Expectations a few years back, after 10 years in the ground. Patience is very important; they take a long time to get established and become big. Mine are 4-5 feet wide. They get very little direct sun but lots of filtered light. Not sure about watering requirements, but I water p...

Re: What turned out to be your best newer hostas this year?
Ann -- Rain Forest and Rainforest Sunrise are 2 totally different hostas although both are very nice. There is a good picture of Rain Forest in the Hosta Library site.

Re: What turned out to be your best newer hostas this year?
Chris, Couldn't agree with you more about Journey's End. There isn't one negative thing to say about it, and it's quickly turning into my favorite hosta. Other newer ones that I'm very impressed with are Ann Kulpa, Pewterware, Shazaam, Heatwave and Sweet Innocence. Ebb Tide, Summer Warrior and Rain ...

I can't speak for heavily populated deer areas, but for areas where the deer population is moderate Milorganite fertilizer works very well. I spread it on the lawn in spring and around the hostas as well, and this eliminates any deer damage on my 1-acre property. If I don't lightly spread around the...

Cynthia, Here are pics of all four I took yesterday. Brother Stefan is the most distinctive, in my opinion. Paradigm is a great grower and pretty trouble-free and definitely gets better with age. I have moved Dick Ward a few times so it's probably a little stunted because of that, but still a very n...

I may have come up with the answer. My wife reminded me that she put a few of the windows from our screened in porch behind MS, leaning up against the deck, for 2 days at the end of last week. This was while we were putting in the screens for the summer and swapping out the windows. So something was...

Wanda, Nope, the light situation for this one hasn't changed one bit. Everything has been constant the entire spring -- nothing removed around it. I'd be happy if this was just some sun damage, as opposed to something much worse and I lost the plant. I'll keep a close eye on it and lift it if this c...

2nd year it has been in this spot and only gets a few hours of direct sun each day. Gets plenty of water. Looked great just a few days ago. This has come on pretty quickly. Also, if I remember correctly, this one can take lots of sun. I believe the original sits in sun all day, so I don't think this...

Maya Swingtime -- need help ID'ing problem
Does anyone know what's causing this? It looked great a week ago. I have never encountered this before on one of my hostas, so I have no idea why this happening and would appreciate any opinions.
