I did what you said drygulch and checked. The label still says 1# = 2 cups in 5 gallons of water per 3 ft. of shrub.  My plants are fairly young so I usually split a 5 gal bucket between two plants. A whole bucket on one plant seems like overkill no matter how thirsty they are! CarolB......

Just a guess on my part, but it may be or has gone into what I call the 'famous rhodie wilt'. Sometimes it only affects a part of the plant, sometimes the whole plant is involved. Once the leaves start to wilt, in that classic downward mode, no amount of watering is going to make it better. The bran...

Hi Peggy, Well I would hazard a guess that one of the planted ones from last spring, ran out of it's applied solution and is now pulling it's nutrients from your own soil. The second one has possibly not reached that point yet. If you treat both (well all of them actually) this fall with the AS, and...

That's because they have been treated by the grower's nursery Peggy. They treat with aluminum sulfate in the spring and fall. We got in a batch of these where I work and I immediately called the company to talk to the grower. These babies came in with such huge blue blooms they were dragging the gro...

Hi Debbie, The ones I've seen at work seem to have a creamy white bloom as opposed to stark white. Very pretty! And they bloom later than traditional lilacs too. You didn't state how old or big the tree is that you have. A young tree or one that has been improperly sheared before you got it may acco...

Actually I'm quite sure the seller knew exactly what he was selling in this case. I'm not really going to give him any more of my time, especially since recieving a very rude and hostile email from him late last night. I can't help people who think money is more important than good sense.

Yes he pulled the auctions as he had more 'wondering why' comments than me. Glad he had the sense.

If I'm not mistaken, you need to start adding it before it starts to bloom. I give the hydrangeas with the exception of the Endless Summer a 2 gallon bucket solution of water mixed with Aluminum Sulfate a week after it leafs out. Then water normally the rest of the time. It takes a little time for t...

Just tell me why???

I really was quite dismayed :o to see a seller on eBay offering Lunacy and Walden (sp) to sell.  Now this person is obviously a collector by the sheer volume of plants he offers each week. I would think that he would have enough common sense not to offer these obviously infected plants t...

Thanks for the tips! :D Ajuga would look nice there and so would the ginger. Neither are readily available around here to. Vinca might fill quickest. Then I got to wondering about ajuga and throwing in a few groundcover junipers. Think a Blue Rug or Blue Chip juniper would compete??

Some kinda groundcover...

I need some kind of kick bu** groundcover that will compete with the roots of a Norway Spruce. I just finished saving the lives of 15 hosta by pulling them out of this area and unstrangling them from the roots. But I really need to put 'something' there but dunno what will be able to compete. I woul...

Ok, all you clemmie experts!

Sorry for the horrible picture, but it is early...... A customer brought this part of his clemmie in yesterday to us to take a look at. He said he planted it approx. 3 yrs ago. This year it came up completely different. It 'used' to be a red with white edges and the 4 petals would open...

I'm totally with OED on this one... We have a family down the street with (I think) 5 dogs. They are either pit bulls or crossbred pits. Their back yard is visible from mine and while I was out working in it a few weeks ago, I heard a lot of growling and yelling and looked up. They were trying to en...

Hi ya's, Well I think the meeting with the sales rep went well. Since I had last talked with him about HVX, he had done his research, has read Chris' articles and posts and checked out all the information at the hosta library. He was happy to see that Langevelds name was not on the list. He tried to...
