Another 1860's Dress

This one is a much more practical day dress made from a very light, gauzey wool. It's not black, it's a fine check in dark grey and a lighter greenish grey. Just finished it this morning!

Please don't mistake movies for real life!! And while slave owners (the female ones anyway!) did certainly dress like this, so did just about everyone in Western Europe and the Americas during that period. Ballgowns were hardly everyday wear (for most) and they certainly weren't designed to b...

1860's Style Ballgown

I thought folks here might enjoy seeing my latest project. I am attending a Civil War event in Naperville, Illinois next weekend and made this little number to participate in the ball on Saturday night. Full length: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y269/penhalion/Costumes/Ballgownfullength.jpg Just ...

That is an incredible piece of craftsmanship! I'm no expert on woodwork, but I can appreciate the skill that went into making that. Wow!!!

A New Queen Elizabeth

Some of you may recall that I play a courtier in Queen Elizabeth's court at Bristol RenFaire every summer. Well the last few years, I've played Queen Elizabeth herself at a small Renfaire in north central Illinois near Oregon, Illinois called The Stronghold Olde English Faire. I made myself a new Qu...

Nasty HVX on Golden Anniversary

I bought this as a bagged, bareroot hosta very early in my hosta career (Spring of '98 or '99). I'm not entirely sure that it really is Golden Anniversary, it's always been weird looking. In fact I thought it had died several years ago. I have it planted in back of a clump of other plants and I didn...

I'm glad that you did the right thing....for Really. I'm sure she knew how much you loved her. The most loving decision is not the one that causes us less pain, it's the one that causes our beloved pets less pain.

Lots of hugs for both of you.

I definitely like the cottage garden look. Formal gardens feel stiff and stiffled to me and that's exactly what I don't want outside in nature.....of course my indoor housekeeping has something of the cottage garden about it too.....

Isabeau is my supervisor

Isabeau is my oldest cat. She was a stray who happens to do a fine impression of a Maine Coon Cat. She is very vocal and very bossy and tells me exactly what she thinks.

I haven't checked any Walmarts lately, but there's a Home Despot here in Homewood that I shop in fairly regularly. About 2 weeks ago on a Sunday, I was there on a cold day and happened to check out what perennials they had in. They had some hostas (don't remember the variety- too many other things t...
