I don't know if I would let it seed, I'd cut the flowers and let it recover and grow. Thats just me. Otherwise using a hosta like Double Dutch might create some interesting yellowish/greenish/greyish seedlings that are reversed and the name would also match.

Have to admit I'm one of those people who doubts it, just from years of working in pest control they are just not considered a pest that eats living plants they usually eat decaying debris. The only way I could see it is if your experiencing crown rot with your hostas. I'd go out late at night and c...

I think the only true dominate trait is there mostly going to be green. Most of its just a good guess or luck. Take a hosta this year and self pollinate it, don't use a plain jane green or a streaked. Pie crusted, red petiols, etc.. and make sure it extremely fertile and produces a lot of seed in a ...

I'm not a big fan of saying a hosta is bad because we all have different conditions so it's hard to say. My biggest regrets is paying hugh amounts of money for hostas that generally aren't proven and die or just never measure up. Anything thats over $15 will be $15 or less in a few years or it's jus...

A plant auction, wasn't there for hostas, wanted some cheap trees, but when they got to the hostas nobody bid on them so I did and got some good sized hostas for 50 cents each, there were five different hostas and I think I bought about 50 of them. I planted them and gave quite a few away anyways th...

I don't divide mine when this happens, sounds odd but I take a holw saw and drill out the centers. Works every time and is a whole lot easier. Yes the hosta looks funny until it's fully leafed out but the next year the eyes grow back in it's place and looks normal

First I don't beleive hybrizing ends with just making the cross and then planting the seeds. It's a long process which can take 5 years or more. The hostas have to reach maturity to know exactly what you have. As far as streaked hostas theres only 4 of them anyways small, medium, large, and extra la...
