Re: Some magical sight this morning....

There is nothing like a morning stroll on a spring morning. Even better with a beautiful emerging hosta covered in dew.

Hosta Declining Near Kousa Dogwoods

Most of my hosta are hardy and vigorous. However, I have a few that are declining rapidly and are in beds centered around Kousa Dogwoods. Kousa dogwoods are also known as Korean Dogwoods and are distinctly different from our American Dogwoods. It is not just some, but all of the hosta in the vicinit...

Re: Is Paradigm In Trouble?

Thanks Chris. I'll leave it alone and see how it does. It was tagged as Paradigm from a local nursery.

Is Paradigm In Trouble?

Paradigm has crispy spots on many leaves. Second year in a row. I thought it could be sunburn, but it only gets morning sun. No other nearby plant shows symptoms. I have no experience with any hosta disease. Is this plant virused? Thanks. Harry http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/harryshoe/DSC_005...

Making Some Progress With Great Expectations

I had a number of warnings. Plus, I had previously watched my Dream Weaver decline each year until it disappeared. But I couldn't resist a beautiful Great Expectations two years ago. I followed the advice of many and placed it in a location where it got 3-4 hours of direct, late-morning sunlight. I ...

I hope you search the center of that monster on a regular basis. No tellin' what you might find. Like your lost keys. Or the car that they start!

Re: Happy hosta new year!

Happy New Year Chris and all. Everything is so different this "winter" here in eastern Pennsylvania. Its green! Last few winters were snow cover and freezing end to end. Good news is that its possible to dig and enlarge beds! That means places for new hosta. Still looking for a perfect spot for Libe...

Re: A tour of Winterthur Museum and Garden

I visited Winterthur last December. The traditional holiday exhibit is wonderful. I need to get there in June to see the hosta at their finest. It is great to live in the Philadelphia area with all its beautiful gardens.

Re: Some gardens around Philadelphia

Anyone who visits the Philadelphia area should add a relaxing visit to Longwood Gardens. I spent an entire day there last summer. A great collection of trees, shrubs and garden plants exhibited indoors and out.

Re: Hosta of the days -'Touch of Class' - post your pics

Touch Of Class is my favorite hosta. She is vigorous, hardy, tough and beautiful well into fall. It was getting squeezed out by its neighbors including a fast growing Northern Exposure. So, we created a new spot for her. In the third picture you can see its deserved prominence in the front bed. http...

Something New?

I transplanted Halcyon a few years ago. A number of tiny plants emerged from the transplant site. I thought they may have grown from remaining pieces of the crown. However, one is quite different from the other five I have transplanted. It has spear-shaped leaves. There were no other hosta growing n...

Re: Any suggestions for bait to attract voles

We feed breakfast to two feral cats. They spend the early morning hours hanging in our garden. ' haven't seen a mouse, vole or rabbit in years. When voles are present, I throw some D-con down the tunnels. Next morning, the D-con is gone and so are the voles. I never see the dead voles, so I assume t...

I just found this young specimen near Touch Of Class. I'm not even sure it is a hosta. If it were, I would be very happy if it resembled TOC in any way. TOC is my favorite hosta. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/harryshoe/DSC_0121_zpscaupzwtl.jpg Touch Of Class last spring: http://i5.photobucke...

Re: Could Be A Great Year For Paradigm

BK, I don't think it looks too bad. There's still a lot of growing to be done this spring. Here's my Paradigm as of May 1. Its going to be sunny and warm for the next week. I expect some real changes around here. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/harryshoe/DSC_0118_zpse0yxstiu.jpg I'll add an up...
