Re: My new baby Cornus Golden Shadows "Pagoda"

so how's your young tree doing? I've had one for a number of years that's doing well and has yet to develop any root suckers which can be common with this species. A suggestion -Not sure where you got the name you posted - it should be Cornus alternifolia 'Golden Shadows' Pagoda Dogwood.

Slow sprouting dahlias

due to the lack of Japanese beetles for the last couple years, I've tried my hand at growing dahlias. I always have one or 2 that take forever to sprout, if they sprout at all. Is there any known pre-treatment that gets them to sprout quicker?
Thanks

Re: Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

ademink, from whom did you acquire your Monumental? And I think I agree about Gardentoad's maple being Viridis - at least it appears to be the same as images I find on the 'net. Yes, this is strange winter weather we're having here in southwestern Ohio anyways. Beats snow some say, but I sometimes w...

Re: Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

Well isn't that something - wish I could help you with a name, but I'm not that familiar with the Japanese maples. Maybe one of the folks in the Japanese Garden Forum could as I think they are both somewhat of experts in that area.
Thanks for trying to help me though

Re: Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

Gardentoad, Thanks for the reply and picture, but are you sure about the name of your plant? Yours looks to be a weeping acer palmatum dissectum and what I was inquiring about is a tall and very narrow sugar maple. Yours are some very attractive trees though.

Acer saccharum 'Monumental'

I'm interested in what the fall foliage looks like on this tree - anyone have some first-hand knowledge of such? This species has a lot of variables from pale green to bright yellow to fiery orange and yellow. Thanks Oops! make that acer saccharum 'Monumentale' -- also know as Newton's Sentry So I r...

Re: Forsythia is blooming!!!

This plant is very easy to propagate from soft-wood cuttings taken during the early summer - if you are so interested. I grew several of these during an evaluation trial and found they don't bloom as abundantly as some of the other species of forsythia, but their leaves are the show. They benefit fr...

Re: Larix decidua 'Puli'

I've used 8 ft lengths of bamboo - I find single lengths at Home Depot and Lowe's - and cut them to whatever length is needed. I would gradually adjust the height as the plant grows - I think these would be small plants. Chain link fence top rails that come in 10 ft lengths work well after the plant...

Chis, I tried growing a few of the same caryopteris and experienced the same results here on the border of zones 5 and 6. Sunshine Blue returned with vigor as did C. divaricata 'Snow Fairy'.

Mike if you're still around, you might try Gee Farms Nursery near Stockbridge. They have a website that you can find through Google. Lots of different conifer and they should have your plant

Thank You DryGulch for your 2¢ worth - I think I'll give them both a try and see what happens. Always needing stuff to add to the compost if I don't like them.

Hope this isn't too late for you - I grew several Bicolors this last year and the plants did terrific. BUT the flowers - though very numerous - were small, maybe no more than 4 inches long. But the shrub was covered and this went on till the cold weather put it to sleep. The marketing images I've se...

Yellow shasta daisies

These have been available now for a couple years and I was wondering if anyone could provide some personal experience feedback on them. I'm looking at Leucanthemum x superbum Sonnenschine in particular, but info on any would be appreciated. I like shastas and have grown numerous selections, but disl...
