Chris, the splotches on mine are subtle ... it looks like the leaves were brushed with green water color. I will attempt a picture with the camera in my Palm and post it. Another thought is that it could be a different virus. Although the green isn't dark green, there does seem to be some bleeding i...

Older Sun Power division - probable virus - ???

I just discovered blue splotches on a Sun Power I divided from a very old "mother plant" in my hosta garden at home. I'm pretty sure it is a virus ... blotchy blue markings on some leaves, with some bleeding where the blue is in veins ... but not sure it is HVX. Any ideas if this sounds like HVX? If...

Whither Leafy???

In July we were fortunate to hear from Mr. Leafmould almost daily, along with pictures of his gorgeous seedlings. Does anyone know what has happened to him since then? I hope he is OK and that he is just very busy with more of his wonderful hosta children. Would love to hear from him and see pix of ...

I've had that mutation a few times, and there is at least one registered. It's not worth much because the yellow tends to sunburn, like the edges of FW. I have a plant like the one you describe growing in pretty dense shade right now, so it's not getting brown, but most of my hostas grow in areas wh...

Chris,
You say testing isn't 100% re: a diagnosis. Can you explain further? Thanks.

I thought "Star" names were chosen as a family by Leafy. I think we should leave those to him. Lord knows he has enough new ones that will be needing names!

I have a pink lupine also and am letting one stalk go to seed. But I need to know if the seeds will produce nothing but pinks. ??? I would like to have a few different colors. Do I have to get a packet of mixed seed in order to have a rainbow of colors, or will the seed I collect from a pink floweri...

Thank you, Chris. The hosta is really beautiful where it is right now, and I sure hope it will be OK. Will be watching again next year.

Help again!

Well, no responses to my original post, but maybe someone can tell me if it's normal for Striptease to (sometimes?) have green streaks in the center yellow/white section of the leaf, some along a vein. And is it normal to have a little green bumpiness in some places, or does Striptease have a comple...

Striptease I've watched all summer ...

I will try to attach the photos I took of my Strip, but haven't done this in such a long time, I don't know if it will work. If not, will try again later. Chris, can you or anyone else tell me if this otherwise healthy and robust Striptease is infected? Thank you!

Thanks, Chris! All the pictures and your explanation have convinced me that my Strip is probably OK. I'm keeping a close watch on it, however, because I got it right when all the bad ones started showing up on the market. This year, it's really leaped and is quite an eye-catcher in my garden. I woul...

Chris, I posted this link in the Hosta Forum. Article on Striptease as Hosta of the Year ... by a U. of Wisconsin horticulturist. http://www.hort.wisc.edu/mastergardener/Features/perenplantsofyear/hosta05/striptease05.htm Check those leaves on the right. Chris, how long does it take for S & S to show the virus? You mentioned the long incubation for this one, but how long is "long?" I bought mine maybe 7-8 years ago. Is it still possible to show infection? So far it looks perfect, as do the divisions I've taken from it.

This is really great, Chris. But reading about the mechanical weeding, planting, and washing on such a huge scale by the big growers makes me see how the problem, by now, is pretty much "everywhere ... everywhere!" BTW, here in Madison, in the beds around our Capitol, where thousands of tulips are p...

Good-bye, Striptease (sigh ...) ???

The Strip I have been watching carefully is showing what I think may be the beginning of overt HVX symptoms, but ... ??? A few of the leaves have a little ink blot greening just inside the white line demarcation. The plant is extremely vigorous and looks beautiful. Is this the way it is with Stripte...

Mine looks very robust and is growing like crazy this year. There are no signs of HVX, but because so many have the virus, which might not show up for a while, I am watching it warily ... and hoping with fingers crossed, that it's OK. It has lots of white outlining this year that it didn't have befo...

Watching Striptease ...

I wonder how many of you are watching a Striptease, as I am, waiting to see if it's going to eventually show signs of HVX. Mine looks very healthy, especially now in its "leap year" ... but it was purchased right about the time when so many of the Stripteases started turning up virused. What I find ...

I, too, have soaked my arrivals together in a bucket of water before planted. YIPES! So far, no problems that I'm aware of ... meaning I've been darned lucky. I will not be doing that again! Thanks for this info. I hope everyone here on the forum has read these posts about soaking and washing roots....

Chris, I think my NBC was acquired from you last year. I'll wait until you get results on your NBC sample to see whether or not mine needs to be tested. They're probably a lot busier this year, but last year I got the results on my single sample in about 10 days. They test at the end of the week, and results are sent in a letter.
