Re: First Blush Seedling
Interesting. I can see First Blush as a breakthrough in breeding, but at the same time see that the ultimate result of this breeding will be a hosta that is, more or less, the color of ... mulch. Might be interesting in a pot. Or when someone gets a nice variegation on it, which might have pinky-ora...

Note: keep clicking the "show more" button on that link to see the ones that didn't do so well. They list 76 in all! Quite an extensive trial.

Re: anybody buying new heuchera's online yet
Welcome back. I haven't bought heuchera online, but have bought quite a few over the years. Some do well, some don't. (Those bred for the Pacific NW don't like our hot summers.) You might find this link interesting. The Mt. Cuba Center in Delaware has a trial garden program for selections and hybrid...

Thanks for the trip.
I am amazed at the overload of Hand of Buddha citrons in the fruit towers at the temple. We buy one every few years to cut up and candy. Makes great flavoring for tea. (It's a close relative of the bergamot used in Earl Grey.)

Re: Four more weeks of "winter?"
You would think that an Apple device would be smart enough to know that "up" is "up" no matter which side the do-everything button is on when you take the pic. :P And (unless you flipped this for me, Chris), it shows fine now that I view this on a regular PC. We're looking at low 20s by the end of t...

If this is upside down for you, you get the idea. I don't know why it does this from iPad.

Four more weeks of "winter?"
A bit alarming to see this today (Feb 26) in our garden outside Philadelphia (zone 7a-ish). Yes, this one is usually the earliest risers, but this is ridiculous. I'll have to figure a way to get a leafy blanket over it.

Sweet story of both past and present! I do love the pampering one can get in these Asian hotels. Funny that I was just thinking of Siem Reap yesterday... there's a nice island for snorkeling not too far away (Koh Chang, in Thailand) that might make Part II of a vacation to the Angkor Wat complex. Da...

Re: Idiots Afloat Ep 5 Saigon Night Market
Overwhelming, isn't it? I'm glad you're so adventurous with food. When I'm in India, I avoid the street market food. But then I'm there on business, so gastro problems mean I'm not going to be as sharp at work. While you were doing all this crazy stuff, we were snorkeling with our friends (human, fi...

I have this: definitely comes up chartreuse and turns green. Maybe (as I note in my other reply) Mark has a different eye for these things.
I did move this to a sunnier location, though, and will keep an eye on it.

Re: Lutescent or Viridescent?
Frankly, I'm hard pressed to think of any solid-color hostas that actually get more gold as the season progresses, despite their presence on your current list. Maybe 'Little Miss Sunshine'? But of those on your list here, I only have 'Dawn' and 'Frisian Pride'. Perhaps some see this "golding up" dif...

Felco,
Offering my opinion and experience here, but for us this hosta was always "Just So What." We don't live too far from you, and none of the 'Little Aurora' sports have done well here.

I picked a bad day to read this (Electoral College voting day).
God's kingdom seems so very far away, when we are reminded so clearly of our sinful nature.
