Re: H. Regal Splendor
Regal Splendor is on my list of sterile hostas as one that is completely, or nearly, pod sterile. Here's the link for Sterile Hostas: http://www.pwk.resteddoginn.ca/lists/ho ... _sterh.php

Re: Something odd is happening to some of my leaves
The damage is on the leaf margin (not the center), and that's probably because the frost hit before the leaf was completely open. With the leaf still curled up, the frost affected only the outermost layer. And you'll most likely find that damage on the bottom leaves of the plant because those were t...

Re: Non-flowering Hostas
Apparently no flowers at all. Mark Zilis writes in The Hostapedia , page 193 under the entry for H. clausa var. stolonifera , "This a variant of H. clausa that does not produce flowers, but spreads by underground rhizomes (Schmid 1991)." I'm wondering if there are other cultivars or species that do ...

Re: Closed-flowered Hostas
Hi Marlys, Thank you for your addition to the Closed-flowered Hostas list. You wrote, "Very small plant (since mini is no longer acceptable language with the AHS)." Actually, the AHS currently has no category of "Very Small Hostas". The Society does, however, have a category of "Miniature Hostas". R...

Re: Would you believe, a hosta that is NOT in the Hostapedia!
SunHosta...sounds like a marketing hoax. It's reported to be introduced by Bernard Chodyla of GroLink: http://www.grolink.com/AboutUs.aspx . There's a description of it here: http://www.ballpublishing.com/GrowerTalks/ViewArticle.aspx?articleid=17150 . Supposedly, this one is TM and PPAF, but I did a...

Re: Would you believe, a hosta that is NOT in the Hostapedia!
Mark gives a lot of other names for Undulata Albomarginata which are listed below, but must have overlooked Shade Seeker. Does any hosta really seek shade, anyways? Given a choice between sunlight and shade, I'll bet any hosta will grow toward the light. undulata Albomarginata names: Thomas Hogg Fra...

I'll add the following to the list of TALL SCAPE HOSTAS , which have scapes taller than 48": 'Guacamole', 'Holly's Velvet Piecrust', 'Old Faithful', 'Krossa Regal', 'Sum and Substance', and 'Fujibotan'. You all sparked my curiosity, so I just had to go out and measure the scapes on my own hostas. Th...

Re: What's still blooming?
Hi Ann, I’ve re-read the information again in The Hostapedia and looked at the registration forms for ‘Kufukurin Ko Mame’ and ‘Fukurin Ko Mame’. Apparently both of these plants are sports of ‘Ko Mame’ and are similar, but not identical. ‘Kifukurin Ko Mame’ was registered by Peter Ruh in 2002. This c...

Re: What's still blooming?
I’m posting the latest list of LATE FLOWERING HOSTAS which is a compilation of all of the input I’ve received so far. The list does not include plantaginea or its close relatives like ‘Aphrodite’, ‘Royal Standard, and ‘Venus’. Perhaps they should be added also? I’ve added ‘Cherish’ to the list after...
