This Year
It will be Norwegian Meatballs, homemade pie and hostas this year then!
Better see the gardens first so I won't be slowed down by a big meal.
What is in Viroqua?

Your Welcome
You are welcome Whitewater176!
I think the Rosedale Richie Valens are going to really grow like crazy this year. It looks like a very nice, very big green one.
Once the leaf piecrusting comes it will be a wow and a monster.
The other two might be a bit slower growing but should do well this year.

My bid
While my bid did not hold up when the auction closed in a flury, my offering did sell for $62 which should help out, so all is not lost.

Nice picture from the Mississippi!
Do you ever get over to Westby to eat at Borgen's?
The Norwegian meatballs and homemade pies are worth a visit to your part of the state.

Two Yellows
These are the only seedlings that I can find that have yellow or somewhat yellow leaves and red petioles.
Neither is as good as yours but I like the red up into the back of the petiole on the Akane seedling.

This posting got me going and I donated some big green 2nd year tissue cultures to the auction.
Hopefully this will help the cause.

Picture
What a beautiful setting for the plants.
Since you face the Mississippi River on a hillside, do most of the plants all get late afternoon sun?

Red
I have some red in a few seedlings. Below is a Swoosh seedling. I checked half of my streaked trays and found I have red in Breeders Choice, Sea Prize, Bravo, William Lachman, a number of Swooshes and assorted mix seedlings. Overall in six trays of more mature seedlings I found 23 with very nice red...

Another Streaked Seedling
At first I was not to excited about "unknown" streaked seeds but have had a couple of plants that are very nice come up this winter.
The shot below is from a Best Blue streaked mix of seeds (not looking like a blue right now).

One of yours
I believe this is one of your seedlings malaprop or at least from the mixed streak pack of seeds you sent with some earlier seeds in late 2006.
I really like the way it has turned out.

Pollen
I wish I would have kept some pollen from last season to play with on my seedlings. Next year I will not make the same mistake. Actually I have already planned on freezing some of the less common stamens for use on early flowering hosta. My choices may come down to selfing it or using some potential...

First Flower Bud on 2007 Seedling
Anyone care to guess what color it will be?
The parent plant leaf is in the background but both the pod parent and pollen parent are unknown in the F3 or beyond plant.

WHS annual plant sale
This year it is on Sunday May 27th at Olbrich Gardens.
It is more of a auction to raise funds for different gardens and projects then an actual sale.
They usually have some outstanding hosta up for auction.

New seedlings of interest
The first picture is a streaked Ventricosa from seeds on Ebay. I got 35 seeds, 20 germinated and 2 were streaked. The second picture is of a lone streaked Komodo Dragon that was a surprise. I know that Chinese Dragon Supreme is a streaked sport of Komodo but have not seen seedlings of this type - is...

Streaked Seedlings
The biggest one looks like it will be a nice streaked hosta in a couple of months.
I planted these in late October.
