Thanks for all the input and Jamie, I loved seeing your hosta bed. I just purchased a H. Elegans at my local nursery. Will make note of the ones mentioned.

Large dark green hosta
I am planning on buying a Lakeside Accolade because I want an area in my hosta garden that features dark colored hostas. Does anyone have ideas on large size hostas with dark green color or dark blue? This hosta could also have varigation.

Freeze/drought
Thanks, I just thought this hosta was not stable and changed a lot. I have a lot of these and the color on new growth is still varigated, but most of these have become virtually solid green. They came out of the ground this way when the weather was cool. I have not noticed them changing color signif...

Yes, water restrictions
I can water just two days a week and I water early in the morning. I planted these hostas in the spring of this year. The soaker hose I use can be pointed down or up. I like the hose the way it is, but have thought of using a different type of hose, a drip type made of recycled tires. This bed is ac...

Send the rain!
As you can see from the picture, I have a soaker hose that runs right behind this hosta which sprays water upward. I can water on Tuesday and Friday and this hosta gets about an hour's worth. I think the biggest problem is the direct sun it gets. According to the American Hosta Society website, this...

Another problem hosta
I appologize for the poor picture. I am having to reduce the picture size a lot and am loosing some of the detail. This is what I think is Undulata Mediovarigata (spelling?). This is a combination of freeze burn back in the spring and then the lack of rain. I have about 30 or so of these and I think...

Hostas and drought
Now that I have shown off some of my best hostas, here are some problem ones. First is H. Gold Standard that is sort of an expirament. I had a tree fall and one of my hosta beds went from shade to a lot of sun. I am trying to find a hosta that will take direct morning sun. With the drought and 95 de...

Drought
That picture was taken probably in May and they get the most shade. I have some more out of the picture to the left that look horible. I had some more that I had to just let die. Good news - the hostas in this bed still look good.

Red Impatients
Thanks for the comments. We are in an extreme drought in Central Alabama and it has been very tough on my impatients. This is the second year of drought and I probably won't plant them next year - except in some pots.

I love blue hosta
A man that loves blue hosta - I admit it and I am not ashamed to say it. One of my best is the very common Halcyon. The attached picture shows the plant in it's second year. You can see a little of my Bressingham Blue in the background which is also looking good.

Cutting Edge
I looked at Cutting Edge on Hosta Library and just about any upright hosta is desirable to me, plus it ripples very well. But, that Ultramarine is awesome.

Fragrant Fire
This is my latest addition - H. Fragrant Fire. I bought it at a local hosta show. I can't remember ever seeing it for sale on the internet. It is somewhat large and has red at it's base. Has not bloomed yet, so not sure what to expect as far as fragrance. Registry - not registered MyHostas - http://...
