Jane,
This is one that I got this year from Chris. I guess it's just immature and will get to look like the real Holy Mole in time. Guess the additional sun exposure might be the reason for the difference too.

Hank, My Holy Mole is new this year and gets full sun from morning until about 1 pm. I took this photo today to post it here. It has one rather crispy leaf and some crispy edges. :o Guess it should be moved next year. However, I do like the color. (Clickable) http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa202...

Claudia, For awhile the wisdom was "don't weigh yourself daily" and I also heard that muscle weighs more than fat so that you can convert fat to muscle and not lose as much weight but be better off. Lately I've seen "weigh yourself daily" but I wonder if it really matters. What seems to matter is ho...

Nancy,
Thanks for the pedometer information. I'm ordering one so that I will feel obligated to continue with this!

I've signed up too! I've been promising myself to try to drop about 10 pounds (which I gained very slowly over the last 15 years) but I've been unable to do it. Maybe having a group for support will make a difference!

Thanks Bill, that's a good point about not really getting rid of them, you would just be holding them at bay waiting for their chance... And the point about safety is a good one too. If you use something safely it's fine. If it purports to be "safe" you may use it unsafely so you're better off being...

Bill,
Have you ever found diatomite or diatomaceous earth to be effective? I thought the Sluggo stuff was shown to kill earthworms (maybe read it in another post).

I saw that blue river and that is why I started the seedlings at the bottom with that idea in mind. Do you think I'll have enough? I think you'll have to do some careful arithmetic to determine if you have enough for the river. Guess it will depend on the square footage you'll want to cover and the...

Well, last summer we had mole tunnels all through the yard. I didn't have hosta yet and saw no damage to anything except for those tunnels leaving the ground kind of squishy. Once the snow melted this spring I found that about 30 feet of gardens near by back door were devastated. It was as if someon...

I think it was Spider who had an idea for a "river" of blue hostas meandering through an area. That might work well if you have a lot of blue seedlings.

Hank,
It looks like it's growing well! I like the shape of the leaves.
Is that a thin white border around the edges?
When you keep records of your hostas do you count the number of eyes that come up in the spring or is that not possible, or relevant?

Jaime,   I can't go along with your regimen of abuse  I think you should build up the plant's self esteem by reading such stories as "The Little Engine That Could" and by offering rewards for every new little leaf it grows. For example, if it grows well you could pot it up and t...

Yes, Bill: So if you mean variation in terms of numbers of differences then seedlings are more variable, but if you mean how visually striking those changes are, then sports are the more dramatic. That was exactly what I meant as it seemed it would have to be so yet I kept reading about many differe...
