Re: Went to the New York Botanical Garden last weekend.
That is easy to get to from NJ, I had no idea. It shouldn't take long to get in there, I'm close enough. I can see the Empire State building from my BF's front deck, it would probably only take me 45 minutes to get there (if I don't get lost, LOL). I've been to Longwood Gardens, it is an experience....

Re: About Outhouse Delight...
Jim, I have a Dremmel tool, but I'll probably put a small masonry bit in a drill, make a "dam" of clay on the surface (plumbers putty works well too), fill that dammed spot with water, and then drill through the bottom of the pot (the water keeping the bit wet). I'll have someone with a pitcher of w...

Re: About Outhouse Delight...
Good grief, you are so creative! I laughed when I read this, and had to repeat it to my mom when she wondered what was so funny. She's not a hosta person, but has a porcelain chamber pot she was goiung to throw out (was my grandmother's) and now she wants me to plant something in it. There's a hosta...

Re: Went to the New York Botanical Garden last weekend.
Nice photos! I'm 35 miles from NYC and I've never thought of visiting the botanical gardens (probably becauseI didn't know they were there, LOL!). I agree with you, that is not 'Striptease'. Wonder how one would go about telling/showing them their error? Glad you shared your experience! Loved the ph...

Re: Road bed, all grown up
Beautiful Ed, wish you were my neighbor when I planted all of my hostas. I had no idea what the mature size of the plant would be.
Is that Guardian Angel in the 3rd photo? Nice looking plant!
Thanks for sharing!

Simply fabulous! You have some beauties there Jim. You know, that's a great way to create a garden map to if you were so inclined. All you have to do is add the names or a number in a bubble to a corresponding master list.

Re: Great Lakes Gold question
Hi Joan, Took a look at the HL and oh how lovely yours must be! Mine has no hint of rippling, and the leaf size and substance is like 'Blue Angel', but yellow. It's on my side of a fence, only a choke cherry on the other side [the neighbor's]. It's next to 'Amazing Grace' and 'Blue Haired Lady', whi...

Great Lakes Gold question
Bought 'Great Lakes Gold' in 2005. It was a tiny tc and although the leaves are huge now, it is still only one eye. Is this a slow one for anyone else? Also, love the yellow color, it really pops, but the leaves are devoid of any ruffling on the edges. Am I correct to assume that it should be exhibi...

Re: Your favorite yellows?
I love 'Dragon Tails', don't have a picture, but its a great yellow mini.
Also have a dud 'Great Lakes Gold'; it has lovely yellow leaves, but no ruffling. Got it as a tc, as it developed leaves got huge, but didn't develop the tell-tale pie crusting.

Re: Kind of nervous. I broke my golden rule.
I'm in zone 6, and this temperate weather is not typical for us either. We usually have frost up until mid-May. We did have a threat of below freezing temps two nights ago, but it didn't dip below 40 (yea!!). Our swamp magnolia has been hit every year by frost as far back as I can remember, but this...

Love yours, so went out and checked mine, it's full of spilt milk too.
Have had it since 2007, this is the first year since I planted it that it has had this much streaking. Fabulous.
