Great Escape looks a lot like Blue Ivory to me. Does anyone have it? Is it more vigorous?

Re: Hostas you just can't seem to grow...
Oh no, I just moved my Rainforest Sunrise to a shadier location because I didn't like the brassy yellow it got in the southern sun. The eyes were thick as thumbs. Hope it's not heading for trouble now. Eleven, yours looks like what I would like mine to look like. What kind of sun does it get? I've h...

Re: Jewel of the Nile (reverting)
Rufie, I had a Fire and Ice that sported solid green eyes. I separated the eyes and planted the division in another location. The following year they turned into Fire and Ice again, My Brother Stefan developed green leaves last summer. I removed the green leaves above the crown. This year BS has its...

Re: Hostas you just can't seem to grow...
Oh no Noreaster, I bought Blue Hawaii because I liked yours. Mine is growing well but I'm a bit disappointed about its blueness so far. Regarding Rainforest Sunrise, mine grew well in a lot of sun but I didn't like the colour. I moved it this spring to a shadier location. I was impressed with the th...

Hi Rosemarie. What a fun day. I must join the AHS. Just a suggestion. Why don't you consolidate all your passwords in one computer document? I got the idea from my DIL. Now when I forget I have one record that I can refer to. And I keep adding to the list.

Re: Hosta of the Day - Dream Queen
Ed and Paul, lovely Dream Queens there. Mine is one year older (planted in 2007) than Ed's larger one but it gets a lot of competition for nutrients from the spruce it's planted under.

Re: shrub ideas?
Hi Ann, I really like Berberis "Concorde'. It's a lovely burgundy color, does well in sun and doesn't grow too large. It can also be pruned back. Artistic carries it and so does Make It Green. If you planted a couple of climatis up against the siding, they would absorb a lot of the heat. I've also pr...

'Heatwave' planted summer of 2011. Front leaf got in the way of a ladder. I think I will like this one.

Re: Pic of the Day--Blue Jay
My Blue Jay is pretty blue first thing in the spring and early summer. One of my favorite blues. It does lose its wax coating by late summer. Planted in 2007.

Re: Dancing in the ...what?
Hi Ed, your DITR is very pretty and looks vigorous. I think there might be two versions of DITR out there. I'll tell you why I think that. In 2009 I bought 2 DITR from one nursery, that's all they had left. I found a 3rd DITR at another nursery but when I got it home I found that it had a wider gree...

Re: H. 'Candy Dish'
I planted my CD last year and the slugs almost devoured the whole thing. It fared better this summer after I gave it the ammonia treatment. The tag that came with the hosta stated that CD would get 24"w x 12"h. Mine gets morning sun, which might account for its light green colour. I have it planted ...

Re: Hosta 'Hadspen Blue'
The name of this hosta has always puzzeled me because mine never looked particularly blue until this spring when it did develop somewhat of a blue cast. I followed the link to the Hosta Library and the pictures there show varying degrees of blueness. My HB gets only early morning sun. Does anyone kn...

Re: Pic of the Day--'Choko Nishiki ('On Stage')
Something is puzzling me. On Stage and montana 'Aureomarginata' are both sports of the species hosta montana but everyone says that MA is one of the earliest to emerge in the spring and OS is the latest to emerge. Does anyone have an idea as to what could account for this difference? And by mid-summ...

I'm really excited to have purchased such a fine hosta last year. I planted it in my Memory Garden last summer but when Victory became available I moved it to another spot. GA survived the move like a trooper. Mine is planted in a problem area which receives late afternoon sunlight. Here's an early ...

Re: Pic of the Day--Queen Josephine
My Queen Josephine is located in my problem hosta bed which I started in 2008 under spruce trees, not realizing that the root system of this type of pendulous spruce tree would stunt the growth of some of the hostas. Queen Josephine has been a tough little hosta increasing in size slowly. QJ's tag a...

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Montana Aureomarginata'
MA is the hosta that rekindled my interest in hostas when I saw it in Artistic's display garden. I had difficulty at that time distinguishing it from 'Yellow River'. I planted both in 2007 in this part of my largest hosta bed. Slugs don't seem to bother it much. I left room for its mature size but I...

Actual spelling of this hosta's name is a bit intriguing. Does anyone have any info about the name? I bought it last year. Hostas Direct lists the height of this hosta as 12". I tend to believe it will get much taller as it's already that height, summer of 2012. It reminds me of Parhelion which is a...

Hi! This was an impulse buy late summer of 2011 because I have a penchant for upright hostas. I plunked it in this spot which is protected from westerly winds that prevail in my gardens because OT has extremely tall scapes. I'm hoping someone has a picture of a mature clump to share. Source of Info:...
