Re: Reversion in Hosta Galaxy?
Easy answer!!! compost!!! take left hand put it at the base of the green part of the plant and right hand right above it and pull hard... sorry to say but it's junk and green will overcome the streaked parts and there is zero reason to save it and please don't name it or introduce it, and this goes ...

Re: Hostas not thriving
Instead of using wood clippings use wood ash. If you have a fireplace or can burn wood. Leave some of the ash in a little larger chuncks so it's about the size of a charcoal or a little less. The benefit is it doesn't rob the soil of nitrogin since it has been burned off as well as sulfer leaving th...

Re: Hostas not thriving
You state they come they come up nice but keep getting smaller so it says to me your not watering enough or your soil isn't holding water. Most likely heres the mistake you made ((( Peat Moss)) , do a little research on it and you'll find it was a very poor choice and you did more damage than good. ...

Re: Great Expectations..........?
If you insist wasting money on it just send a check to me and I'll put it to good use by buying a hosta that will grow. For those who can grow it it's an exception not the rule granted I can't say I'm not a little jealous. Don't waste your time and money, I can't tell you how many that have died on ...

Great Expectations, Bud Is Wiser, Cats Eyes (stated again), and I could go on but these get me the most. I think location has a lot to do with it as well, I know most of you can grow most of Marys Lakeside hostas but they just don't grow well for me at all.

Re: So many new hostas on the market...
I've been openly complaining about this for a long time without saying his name but go to the hosta registrations for the last 5 or more years and you'll see 1 major name that is the biggest problem and unfortunitely it's also the same person everybody want's his hosta book. Granted he takes good pi...

Re: Which traits are fairly easy to reproduce?
Generally expect 98% to 99% green regardless of the parents. It's that 1% to 2% that your looking for. Out of probably 1000 plus seedlings per year for over the last 10 years I've kept less than 20. Out of those approx 20 after 5 years I would consider 3 worthwhile, but I'm also picky. Don't beleive...

Re: How to get new sport to marketplace?
Takes no more area than your stove top. It's not messy since your trying to avoid it being messy. Cost less than $20 to do approx 1000 and most of that cost is startup which would take anybody a long time to do individually. Takes around an hour to do around 20. I can see where in a large commercial...

Your name makes a big difference as well. One of those names you mentioned hasn't put anything out decent (mostly junk) in years but because his name is big in the business he gets priority so make yourself known. Join the clubs and such. Another option is do what I've done because I have no other o...

Re: A plain little green hosta.
I see, have to admit, while I somewhat (you do need greens in the landscape) enjoy Let Me Entertain You, I always thought it was probably the worst name ever given to a hosta it's just not that entertaining, but it's also a hosta realistically that should have been pulled. LMEY from Gypsy Rose from ...

Re: Blue eye in Pauls Glory
Take right hand then your left hand put it at the base of the blue plant and pull really hard, repeat steps if neccessary and throw into compost.. they my be small now but it will outgrow the original plant. Weaton Blue is a cheap plant, I don't really care for it, and we can argue if you can really...
