Re: Let's show Paul some love!!!
Me Too I viewed them and was amazed not only by the beautiful gardens, but by the amazing photography!! Thanks Paul, your effort is appreciated, even though I didn't comment on each thread after looking through them!

Love the soft pink and yellow combo. Yep, you need to register it, like you said, too good not to!

Wow, those are great! Apache War Dance looks like a terrific red. That Blizzard Blast is especially nice and the coloring on Santiago is unique and eye-catching. You have Beautiful Edgings and Victorian Lace in there, too. Those have been on my wish list for a while, nice to see that they do so well...

Oh, those are lovely. I know what you mean about Hot & Humid. Our weather has been either Rain or Hot & Humid every day for that several weeks. The daylilies would really like a few dry sunny days to look their best. I hope to get pictures one of these days!

Karen, that bed will be beautiful! Sagae and Regal Splendor will be nice big backdrops for all the rest. Funny how a new plant makes you expand a bed that's only a month old!

Potomac Pride vs. Vim & Vigor
Hi All! I've been updating my hosta list and walking through the gardens trying to make sure everything is properly labeled and recorded. In the process of moving a few years ago I dug a lot of plants from the old house and put them in temporary beds here and gave a bunch to my sister who helped dig...

Re: Show off your hostas - then and now!
This is a fun thread! Linda - every one of your pictures are beautiful, you have an eye for arranging the plants (or is it just luck as you throw them in the ground)? :D Pat - what a difference, the second picture really looks like a woodland cottage setting. Viola Ann - those beds progressed nicely...

Re: Show off your hostas - then and now!
Mine "then" pictures are from May 23, 2007, that was around the time hubby and I got married and I started turning "his" house into "our" house. From very few plants to a lot more plants! The after pictures were take May 22 of this year, so you can see that 3 short years can really make a difference...

Re: I have bloom, Lemon Lily, I think
Lovely! I have buds on my orange ditch lilies, but nothing on the "good" daylilies yet! :D It's really too early here. We've had a weird spring. Some really nice warm weeks in April and plenty of rain. I think it was the early warm weather that got the ditch lilies on the south side of the house to ...

Quaking Aspen . . . ?
I was buying plants the other day and at the nursery they had Quaking Aspen that were 6-7 feet tall. I've seen the beautiful aspen in Colorado in the fall and thought WOW, wouldn't that be a great tree to have?? I got home and googled Quaking Aspen and was really disappointed to find out that it's i...

Re: what chewed up my hosta?
Yep, the damage happened when it was just an eye or sometime prior to unfurling. The dead give-away is that the damage is somewhat symetrical or uniform. Imagine rolling up the leaf, poking a stick through it or bending it sharply, then unrolling it, you would have a repeating pattern of damage acro...

Re: What's wrong with this picture?
This hosta is playing that game "Which of These Things Doesn't Belong?"
Kind of hard to miss that round leaf!
Your description of getting sucked into hostas probably mirrors many of the stories here.

Re: general planting question
What a great idea, Gardentoad!! Wish I had thought of that . . . I did a new huge bed and my arm was sore from pumping, spraying, pumping, spraying, and lugging the heavy tank around. Next time I'll use a cheap roller!

Re: thoughts on landscape cloth?
Whew, I'm glad he was convinced! My hubby still thinks using landscape fabric is the "proper" way to make a garden!! I gave in and let him put it under the rocks in front of the porch. Now, as the bushes there get bigger and the crowns of the hosta spread, each spring I have to go out and clip...

Re: Early vs Late to emerge
I'm in zone 5, and for the two you mentioned, I have both of them in pretty deep shade . . . Paradigm is usually late for me, but Cheatin' Heart is already up and starting to unfurl. I hope yours show up and weren't eaten by anyone over the winter. After way to many near-panics when I thought someth...

Re: Time to Start the 2010 Veggie Garden?
You've got a head start on me. That's a cool site with good info for our zone. Now if I had the energy and organizational skills, I might be able to do that. I poop out in the heat of July/August and from there on out the garden has to fend for itself, except for a little watering if things get real...
