Re: What caused this?

I have had this problem before and am having it with a vengence this year. I am convinced it is from heat stress in the previous year. The ones that have had this happen to them have recovered in one to two seasons of heavy and regular watering. I could kick myself because in my first years with hos...

Re: Bald Eagle

We had five of them circling around at once, yesterday. They were hanging out over the intersection while we were waiting for the light to turn green. Pretty cool. We see them all the time, out here.

I believe all parts are poisonous. Same with foxglove and castor bean. All very pretty, but not for my garden right now. Oh well. Just need more hostas instead!

I was thinking Gold Standard and Elegans. Could be wrong on those, but that's what mine look like this time of year.

Re: What do you do with seedlings?

I've got some cute little yellow seedlings coming up but I don't know who the mommy is. They are coming up around a Delta Dawn, Remember Me, English Sunrise, Cadillac and Ani Machi. And to top it all off, that is the spot where my Little Aurora sport (Glow Worm) was planted before I moved it. The se...

Ok. PS also has cream margins that might turn white, right? Moonlight starts out with white margins for me. Nothing cream about them.

It is great, isn't it?! Very bold color choices. I know he will love it. I have so many to finish. My five year old keeps asking me if I am almost done with his big boy quilt. I wish!

Re: Anyone have first hand information about Paradise Standa

Jim, when did you get yours? I hope I got mine early enough. I haven't noticed any weirdness so far. I bought it because it was one of the oldies. I like the classics. So sad my Change of Tradition bit the dust. Dang squirrels, kids, and going on vacation during the hottest three weeks of the summer...

Re: Why are some of my hosta getting smaller?

Karma, do you have any spruce, cedar, or fir growing anywhere near those pines? I have the same problem in some areas. I think cedar is the worst for me and then the Doug fir. I had to remove a very pretty hosta bed from under the cedars since they were all shrinking away. Same thing with the fir. A...

My Moonlight starts out apple green and white and turns yellow and then parchment as the season progresses. I bought it in 2000.

Whew! With the long silence, I thought it had turned to mush over the winter. So happy it is doing well. Wouldn't a piece of that set the First Look auction on a wild ride!

Re: Favorite yellow hosta for the shade

Oooohh! I want both Clovelly and Dancing Queen! I am seriously short on space that isn't full sun or cedar and spruce root choked. I have just lost or almost lost too many hostas under those trees. And we extended our bedroom out 8 feet, so now it covers my patio where I used to have nice dappled sh...

Re: Guacolmole and June

Well, Guac can take more sun than that. Maybe that is why it is smaller. It could just be ready to leap in the third year. Too many factors to say for sure, like soil, water levels quality of the tc to start with. My June has been creeping, too. And it is planted in two different spots.
