Re: HVX? A friend wants to know and I'm not sure.
Edema will turn to dead tissue and brown the affected parts of the leaf, there's no evidence of that here. It would be interesting to find out if this oddity manifests itself in newer growth. I had an example in my own garden where I thought earlier this spring I had some form of infection in 5 divi...

Re: Best way to post hostas for identification?
Andrea,IMHO it's best to do them as individual posts, that way there's less room for confusion.

Some yearlings...
..those would be last year's seedlings of course. This is a 'Hacksaw' OP seedling that I call 'Blue Me Away'. What can I say, it was a very windy day and I was blown away by the size of the darned thing, it's a whopper given its lineage. Resize of P1180409_bluemeaway.JPG This was the surprise of the...

Dark-flowered hostas
Over the flowering season I've made an effort to take pictures of the darker flowered varieties I have in my garden. I laid them out on a backer board that has a nice, neutral colour and put them under cover in my potting shed out of direct sun so I could replicate the set-up over several days and w...

Re: I got a "red" flowered plant in this season
Nice flower on this one, Ed. I feel we should pay more attention to flowers than we have, but perhaps that's just me.

Re: 'Earth Angel' sport
Well, lookahere, there's yet another shoot in this plant that's sported. I'll leave it attached and see how it and the separated one differ later on in the season in terms of size and vigour.

Re: 'Earth Angel' sport
Thanks for your suggestions, David. Other names suggested were "Golden Angel" and "Angel Aura". Whatever name I end up with eventually -if it shows promise later in the season- it will incorporate the Angel moniker to make it easy for me to remember its origins. I'll keep the thread updated as the s...

Re: Daily Hosta - 'Wheee!' - add your pics
Resize of P1170242_wheee.JPG This is mine from about a week ago. I bought it last year when I saw a sample in the nursery that looked to fasciated, just liked the looks of it. Indeed the petiole on that shoot was fasciated alright but there's nothing to suggest it reoccurred this year. See my posti...

'Earth Angel' sport
I found a sport on one of my 'Earth Angel's last year and this year it came back nice and vigorous. So I thought I'd separate it and see what happens with it. It's basically a solid-coloured of the edge variegation, and that COULD be an issue for how well it will grow on its own, time will tell. Hav...

This is what I saw a couple of days ago, an ADG with swelling shoots, it's been quite mild out there in Canada's banana belt!

Re: Another 'Hacksaw' seedling...
None of the flowers opened, all were fused and the vast majority have developed pods, most of which abort before they mature.

Re: Blue flower project
I took some pictures today of 'Restless Sea' in bloom and when I looked at the pictures I was taken aback by what I saw on the monitor: BLUE.
Here's another shot.
