Re: Bob Solberg to Speak to Iowa Hosta Societies
Great summery, Marlys! I really enjoyed listening to Bob...there is no denying he knows his stuff!! My favorite part was seeing the hybrids he is working on. Some really amazing things are coming!

Re: How do I save this hosta?
You'll be further ahead doing as Roxanne suggested. This will really set it back. If you want to try, I'd dust the crown area with rooting hormone. That will encourage faster rooting, plus it usually has a fungicide to help ward off rot. Then pot it in soil-less potting media, keep it damp and out o...

I agree that repotting now really gives no advantage to the plants.

Bob Solberg to Speak to Iowa Hosta Societies
Bob Solberg will be in Iowa speaking to both the Harshbarger and Russ O'Harra Hosta Societies the first weekend in October. The following info is copied from the Harshbarger Club's newsletter. Maybe someone else has the Russ O'Harra info they could post? Bob Solberg Green Hill Farms, N.C. “Selecting...

As far as I know, there aren't going to be any more sales. Olga's new place is smaller, so she is only taking the best of the best with her.

I don't think you will be disappointed, rosemarie, as long as you know what to expect. War Paint is such a show stopper in the spring, I think it is worth growing just for the spring show. Not all hostas are show offs all season long.

Re: Nematodes..Guess I'll start it this year
I agree, Chris. I couldn't find any reference to foliar nematodes. It certainly would be worth a try!
During the "Grower's Perspective" panel discussion at the National Convention, Bob Solberg said the adult nematodes are fairly easy to kill. It's the eggs that are the problem.

I'm not exactly sure when it will be out, but probably fall-ish. There are 3 per year and the last one came out in the spring.

Even leaving a pump run may not be enough to keep fish over winter in a preformed pond. They are usually pretty shallow. If it is in a sheltered location, though, you might get by. Like Chris mentioned, too many fish leads to big problems! You definitely saved yourself some trouble by skipping the k...

Mine (Sugar Daddy) still looks pretty good Josh. If you want to send it my way from Chicago, I can see if it grows better in Ohio or if it's just a bad TC. I have a really ugly Northern Halo, we could trade them! I think I'll pass on your Northern Halo, Dave! Actually, I'm going to try the Su...
