Re: Daily Hosta - Royal Tiara

The quickest way to verify that RT is not a Tiara at all is to look at the leaf reverse. All Tiaras have shiny backs, RT does not. Mark Zilis registered the gold form of RT as 'Royal Charm' in 2003. RC is a much larger plant than 'Gold Edger', medium rather than small. Viktoria RoyalCharm.jpg RoyalC...

Re: hypoleuca

What you say, Chris, makes sense to me, too, BUT I have been told that in their original sites species hostas often grow out in the open, only shaded by nearby vegetation (eg. grasses, not trees).

Re: hypoleuca

No problem here. The species generally like more sun than we think (learned from the "experts"), so you could try a sunnier location?

Re: any one growing Humpback Whale?

'Humpback(ed) Whale' is never so blue as 'Elegans' and, predictably, ends up being green.

As someone else said, price is a pretty good clue to TC origin.

The gift plant was supposed to be 'Pamela Lee' but the wrong plant was propagated. We all now have another 'Radiant Edger'.

You all are right: 'Blue Cadet' is more likely it.

'Elegans' and 'Halcyon' are widely available and often bought by "beginners".

Re: To destroy Ant Beds

Borax works, as does commercial ant killer (forget brand). I sprinkle one or the other on ant nests found outside. If tiny ants appear in the kitchen, which happens each summer, bait set on kitchen counters eliminates them in days.

'Alligator Shoes' came immediately to mind but I have not yet convinced myself. If out of that you got AS streaked, you are fortunate.

Did you check the MyHostas database at the Hosta Library for possibilities (similar sports already on record)?

I also moved all species hostas into a dedicated section of the garden because they were getting lost among all the cultivars.

Re: Hosta Hyacinthina sport

'Hyacinthina' is prone to sporting. The development of a streaky-looking sport into an edged one is typical. While this one may not be genetically identical to 'Gold Standard', it sure looks like it is going to look a lot like it.
