MollyD--I'm not sure but I think it is a penstemon. There is a lable out there but it is under a foot of snow right now. :D The one behind the Sun Power hosta in the first photo is a cimicifuga.

Hi--That is montana 'Aureomarginata', on my short list of favorites as well as the AHS popularity list. It is spectacular from when it 1st emerges until the end of the season. Here are a few photos.

Yes, those are daylilies. I use them for the contrasting foliage as well as the color. In many of our beds there isn't enough sun light to keep them happy enough to produce a lot of blooms but even with just a few hours of direct sun they still produce at least some flowers.

Hi Becky--We probably have over 25 different plants that we use as ground covers. The one that might be my favorite is lysimachia nummularia, 'Moneywort' or 'Creeping Jenny'. It does well in a variety of light conditions and is not too bad at invading. I also like some of the sedums. In some of the ...

Izzy--Thank you. Its posts like yours that keep me doing this. The camera I use is considered out of date now. I bought it in 2002. It is an Olympus C-700 2,1 mega pixel with a 10X optical lens. I have long since decided that taking photos on days with a bit of cloud cover is the most important cons...

Hi All--For a few days I'll be showing shots, taken in 2005, of our south lawn area. This is the area that first showed up in "Garden tour 11". These two photos are of the same 8'X10' bed, taken from opposite ends.

Hi--I'm not sure of the exact number of varieties that are sold in the trade but I think it is about 315 or so. One of these days I'll have to go through my data base and get the exact number. I also have about 15-20 sports and seedlings that I may get around to naming and registering this summer. T...

Thanks for the nice comments. I'm planing on showing these general garden photos for a while yet. Pia--The police were not able to find the vandals. It is assumed that the damage was done in retaliation for my political activities in trying to maintain the separation between religion and government.

Hi--The second photo, from 2005, is the same one I showed yesterday. The first photo is of the same area taken back in 1994 when we had just started to plant some hostas in the area. I thought the before and after shots would be interesting to some folks.

Hi All--The two photos I'm showing today are of what we call our south lawn and the hosta bank. The area I showed yesterday is on the right side and far end of the first photo. I am using photos taken in 2005. In the spring of 2006 our garden suffered a serious attack by vandal(s) using a commercial...

Hi All--Today's three photos are a continuation of the ones from yesterday. This is a tree covered bank that runs along the area behind our neighbors house. Up until a couple of years ago I just left it alone but then I decided that it would be a spot to plant my seedling "discards" and it would loo...

Hi All--Here are a couple more photos taken from our deck. In the first photo you can see the "L" shaped retaining wall that has shown up in a some of the recent photos as it goes behind our neighbors garage. The second photo shows the area that continues from where the first photo ends.

Karen--The trees in the front garden are Black Walnuts. We also have a number of them scattered about the property. I have read in a number of sources that Black Walnuts produce a substance that kills or greatly inhibits some plants. I have NOT had ANY problems with our perennials growing under any ...

Hi All--Here are two more photos of our front garden. They were taken from the deck that extend from our house. In the first photo you can see the driveway that has the narrow strip of plants that I showed in the first photos in this series. In today's second photo you can see a portion of the retai...

George--Nice photos. Thanks for posting them, particularly since they seem to match the registration description. The problem with the order in which the photos appear is because the software insists on first posting any photos under 50 Kb and then the rest of the photos. This happens to me every on...
