Thanks, Josh. It stayed green last year, we'll see about this year. I was trying to put some "Sparkle" into radio waves. I lost a great deal of seedlings this spring in the freeze, but from what I saw last year, L Sparkle Plenty did a fair job of passing on the "Sparkle". I'll have to try some more ...

Thanks Reldon and Josh! I have another half dozen of this cross from that year, but these two are my favorites. It seems when I get more of the RNH leaf form and plant shape expressed, I loose the white backs and the rippling on the edge. My Marilyn Monroe is small, got hit by frost and is still rec...

A couple of '04 Favorites
These two are from crosses done in '04, they are both Marilyn Monroe X Red Neck Heaven. The second has a more elongated leaf, more bloom on the pets, and whiter backs: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/seedseller1/07%20Pics/th_MarilynMonroeXRNHLeafJune907.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...

This is a cross from '05-'06, Lakeside Sparkle Plenty X Radio Waves. It came back this year with 9 or 10 eyes. That is a penny to the left. (I thought I read somewhere that leaf shape was a maternal trait?) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/seedseller1/07%20Pics/th_LSparkPlentXRadWavesJune907.jpg

Hi Molly- Not making any chemical recomendations here, but the active ingredient in Ortho's Grass B Gone is the same as the agricultural chemical called Fusilade. This product is labeled for use in soybeans (and several other broadleafs) as well as vegie gardens. It is a systemic in its mode of acti...

Hi Rachel! Sounds like one more question associated with moving to your new location--hope everything is going well! I do not have an automated sprinkler system, but do have a couple thoughts to share. I would guess that the amount of water needed to keep the plants happy would be deterimened by the...

Thanks Josh! I'm on a "REC" (rural electric cooperative) but everybody around nevermind who there provider was kinda in the same boat--hundreds of power poles/lines down and I know they can only do so much in the time given. I think the crew that actually got us up and running was from Alabama. Glad...

Down to zero here tonight (Waterloo area) but looking forward to the forties predicted for the end of the week and the weekend--a welcome site after the ice storm we experienced a week ago. My seedlings look stressed but mostly alive after spending 6 days without electricity (light). The house proba...

Thank goodness for all this heat! The last of my pods on Galaxy finally aborted. What a relief. Just think of all the time I would have spent documenting, harvesting, planting, nurturing, cupping, and upcupping, and evaluating and growing on for a year or two. This is gonna be just like bonus vacati...

Curtis, I don't know what the vials are called or used for. I have some glass blood sample vials with rubber stoppers but they are all full of last years pollen. When I stopped in to see if they had some of the glass ones like I had been using, the aide said that they did, but they had a liquid in t...

Hi again, Curtis. The method I use for storing pollen is such: I snip the filaments directly into a pint freezer containor, and label of course. (clickable) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/seedseller1/06%20Pics/th_anthersandfiliments.jpg Then I dump the contents onto a sheet of paper (again, l...

Curtis, I use a very simple method to "tag" my crosses. I keep a card for each pod parent, and write the date of the cross, the number of pods I have pollinated on that date, the pollen donor, and the color of thread that I use to denote that cross: (clickable) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/...

there really is only 1 OS of a hosta out there the rest are divisions that come from the OS and TC's Hey Scott, I didn't understand this passage  . I was under the impression that any division from the original plant is considered OS? :hmm: And if this is the case, then any division from thes...

Hi John! Do you think the tc's sport more often, or do you mean that more sports are found in a group of tc's? If this is the case, it's purely a numbers game. My guess, and I'm certainly not an authority here, is that the gene pool (genotype-the set of genes within a plant) that exists within almos...

Hi there!
The following link may help you identify it:
http://www.seedsavers.org/products.asp?dept=29
I was thinking it may either be a "Bule Gourd" or one of the "warted" goards towards the bottom of the page. Keep in mind that gourds can cross pollenate, so it could be a mix of some kind also.

Thanks Kent and George. I just came up from the basement raiding my flats for the final time--I just couldn't part with some of those crosses that showed nothing more than a healthy seedling. Those that are left in the flats won't go to waste tho, we have a facility just up the road that takes care ...
